Been getting 3 kettle bells sessions a week in, but biking has been reduced to 3 x 20km a week on the trainer :-( due to the weather. To make up for that climbed a mountain the last 3 weekends, wading through waist deep snow is a great workout.

If you can do 10 you can 13 Spen, especially when the race day comes around, the crowds and other racers will carry you through fine!

Top - Yeah...I get time off through next week. Took vacation though, cuz if I used sick time I'd have to fill out family leave paperwork. Was hoping to go back early, not sure yet.

Awesome Stewart!

Hi there MyHeadhurts. Wow, waist high snow would shut me down fast!

Strong headwinds biking in this morning; distracted drivers to contend with on the way home. But no complaints from me.

i had some sort of stomach bug attack me in the middle of the night...the only exercise I got was leaping out of bed to get to the bathroom.

no exercise for 2 days (unless barfing counts as ab work)....but tomorrow i plan to get back to doing some work for myself.

there is a great thread in F&F area about setting a major goal for yourself, i enjoyed reading it, but hesitate to join in, because I am on the other side of the fence.

Yeah, Spen... I agree with Stewart. With 10 down another three really isn't that much.... and especially with the adrenaline going and everyone rooting for you on race day. I have complete confidence that you'll do just fine - and probably even better!

Ultra - Hope all that went well. Sometimes, we just have to really get it into our heads and hearts that we are not going to drink... so if you feel or felt like you must do this, stand strong, my friend! It's possible. Just don't get all sucked down in it.

Coffee - 6 is good... and thanks for allowing me to whine. I actually did go for a run yesterday. Ran a good 10 minute pace in my Vibrams for 10K. Pretty proud of myself and glad I ran. It helped tire me out so I didn't have time to feel bad. Afterwards, I met up with some friends and we talked briefly about stuff -- each little bit getting stuff out is opening it up more. It's all good though. Needs healed up... it's time.

Ghostly - Hopefully the bleeding as subsided at least. Maybe you could at least go walk or something??? How is the weather up your way?

I did take tomorrow off for a vacation day. The last couple days I've been having a hard time catching a deep breath - and I think it anxiety-related. May do my long run tomorrow instead of Saturday... not sure yet. Guess I'll wait to see what I feel like in the morning... just don't know how much to push myself...

Anyway, hang in there everyone -- the Groundhog didn't see his shadow, so we supposed to get an early Spring! Yeah, uh-huh

We just had a blizzard. Think it's barely above zero. Think it was about -20 (not with wind chill) last night. So...pretty crappy. I did break Dr.'s orders and went out with the snow blower. Had some things I wanted to clean up.

Glad you're feeling better. I am plannin on doin the Warrior Dash in September...thanks to you.

Ghostly: I attempted a bridge last night. How do you do those things?! I know by your posts that you must have excellent upper body strength...but jeez, those things are tough!

Really: Keep talkin' it, girl.

Ultra: I agree w/Top about coming through rough patches stronger. It's a learning experience. Toward the end....I knew if I didn't get a hell of a lot tougher, I was going to die a drunk. Scared me. Should have.

Top: Tired and sore in a good way means progress! Good for you!

Going to try to get outside tonight. We'll see! Have a Great Friday, All!

Got 6+" of snow overnight on top of the sheet of ice --4th day of work being closed and not being able to drive at all...Can't even walk far as I don't own any boots and my feet freeze in my sneakers even with 3 pairs of socks on... I won't be getting to the gym today either. I did polish all my wood floors yesterday and was up and down on a ladder rearranging/re-hanging artwork and danced around the house to really loud music so I guess that counts as exercise? Going a little stir crazy being home alone but it is pretty out this morning.

Judy,
Isn't this the weekend Tom is flying to Dallas ? Sure hope he's not caught out in a closed airport (for days) Atlanta shuts down and it's just crazy, when no flights come or go for 24 !?!

RfR, ...you must be getting used to those vibrams ?! Good work on the 10k.

Coffee, ....don't try any hand stand push-ups (without a spotter )
ghostly is special, ya know. lo Specially STRONG !?!

Went out on some errands yesterday on the bike. Grocery shopping is a new experience when you've got limited load capacity. Satisfying, though. next time , I'll think to unload my backpack first !
Did have a completely empty trunk pack though.

Cold and rainy today, ........went to the Naval gym last night for some light weight work and 40 minutes on a stationary bike. ....some of those yoga poses (from Wed am) still have me a little sore in the upper gluts. Soreness, at this point, is a GREAT THING.

Need to get back home sometime to cook up a big pot of chili today. Craving some fried catfish after all that chicken this week !?!

You runners, .....keep up the good work !!!

Yes I believe it is this weekend, the airports are not completely closed but the roads are a mess cause the cities don't really have the equipment needed to clean this up-- I've never even seen a snow plow in TX and the sand trucks are in limited supply as well. If he's here hope he and his son are safe.

I did venture to the store so I walked almost a mile in the snow it was kind of fun, i wrapped plastic wrap around my feet in between layers of socks so my feet stayed dry and warm.

You all, active as always. Hope it was a good week with good motivation to stay clear headed and on the right path.

Just relaxing after a busy week. Good rides out and back today. Big run tomorrow, Spen, when I look to a really long run, I try to get my mental approach right. Just like those xtra three miles, same thing for me when I first was in a half marathon and I saw where the Full marathoners cut off and went their own way. I just could not comprehend doing the whole 13.1 again, mentally or physically. Took time, increased mileage slowly but surely. And now I can do it.

This mental thing is something I am trying to work in place for my decision to lose the alcohol. it really seems daunting sometimes, can I actually do this? Forever? It seems impossible sometimes...then I remembed ODAAT is no different from that slight but consistent increase in mileage.

Ok friends I will let you know tomorrow how I do. Have a great night.

Hi guys,

We all have to somewhere, right?

We had 9:30 AM non-stop to Dallas. We have been monitoring the weather there, so the first thing I did at 5:00AM was check up on my flight and it was no surprise that it had been canceled. Then went to the web page for the Music program at UNT and they were saying that if you were there already, come on in. But if you had not started your travels, don't bother coming in.

6 hours later, dozen of phone calls and e-mails, and we are now scheduled for next Saturday. I make it sound simple but it was pretty unnerving there for a while.

Anyway, here it is an interesting comparison:

Airline this weekend: $650.00 ~ next weekend:$259.00.
Marriott hotel in city: $359.00 ~ next weekend:$89.00. (We had chosen a cheaper one in Denton)
Hertz rentacar: $89.00 per day ~ next weekend:$21.00 per day, same car.

The only difference is that there is no Superbowl next weekend.

So back in my office today, except that I worked so hard to be able to get away that I am beat and not getting anything done. This is the first time I log in in 3 days. I will try to catch up later.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got my 20 mile fitness ride in this morning in between all the craziness, once I knew I was not flying.
See you .... TdC
Judy: House cleaning is great cross training...it all counts! Specially walking through the snow!
Spen: Programs were made to be modified. You're okay!
Top: You are really committing to bike travel. GOOD for you! You can keep the catfish, though. :P And handstands....ummmm...NO! I'll leave those to Ghostly.
Ghostly: You better not recrack that nose!
Grand: The mental thing will/can kick your butt if you don't watch it. Seriously. In early recovery, I do believe it can be a moment at a time....at times. I don't think I was thinking in terms of forever until I was a lot longer into it. SR was just crucial to me....reading what others have done...scary. I don't remember....do you AA?
Tom: Sorry about the weather driving you nuts....but it does sound like it will work in your favor from the $$$ standpoint.
I got 10 here. Now....just looking forward to the weekend. Make it a good one, all!
MYGD... I do the same for my fitness AND sobriety. I always try to study the route of my Sunday club rides and try to budget my energy in my mind during the long ones.
I am, doing a very hilly century at the end of April and I have the profile plotted out and taped to a wall in front of my desk and look at it from time. I am giving myself plenty of time to prepare.
I also have this relaxation MP3 (it can be used as a form of meditation). I close your eyes and imagine my body being filled with a thick warm slushy liquid that travels through my body and washes myself from the inside out. It last about 10 minutes long and I see the liquid pushing all the junk (in my case alcohol and temptation) out of my system.
It may sound stupid, but it really relaxes me and at the same reinforces my commitment to my sobriety. I do believe in playing mind games and "programming" or subconscious.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am looking at all this pictures of snow and ice and ice and snow and I don't know how you guys do it. My hat is off to ALL of you.

Tom, Glad you didn't have to come here in this mess and sounds like next weekend will definetly be much more economical!
Ghostly, I guess we do sound like weather wimps to someone from Wisconsin but since we only get this bad weather 2-3 times a year for a couple of days at a time (this is the longest stretch of bad weather I've seen in 30 yrs, 4 days in a row of schools and businesses closed) we don't have the clothes for it and we don't have snow tires or snow shovels or any of that stuff. I did hear on the news last night that the city of Dallas does not own a single snow plow they were borrowing some from El Paso which is like 10 hours away in good weather, the mayor said it's never been economical to keep them but he's rethinking that now....
My house cleaning did a number on my back which is why I'm posting at 5 am on a Saturday....need to rest today then hopefully get back to the gym tomorrow, I now know I can walk there
