Hi guys!

Waves sheepishly

I've been bad over the holidays...I admit it.

Going to head back to the gym tonight and start again.

No good excuse, other than holiday stuff:-)

Ultra, thanks for posting that amazing article. Just blows my mind. Day 17 so I am still in the infancy of this journey.

His story just confirms for me that there is talent, genius, intelligence, you name it..in everyone. I go back to thinking bout my brother a lot these days, so smart, really curious, always had a unique insight on things. And it's wasting away on that barstool. Man.

Didn't have a chance to check in today but I just read every single new post, great things going on here with you all. I am sore today but forced myself up and out for the 2m and core work.

Great article Ultra, !!

I totally get the parallels.

Knew a college prof back in the mid 70's who could've written a similiar article. He ended up Savannah's top qualifier for the Boston for years . Always ran into him at public events in running gear !?!

Le Femme: Welcome back! Not a darn thing wrong with taking a break.

Ultra: Thanks for the article. I did it the opposite of the author....drank for 30 years and started running the last 6 or so of the alcoholism. Expected big things when I quit drinking....haven't seen what I expected. Guess that means I need to bump it up. See exactly what is there....right? Again....thanks.

Ghostly: Hope your long week seems short!

Top: While I can't cut out all the sucrose you have, I've decided to commit myself to healthy eating. My problem is candy. And once I start eating it....I seriously can't stop. So, right now my goal is 4 fruits/veggies a day. More water. And NO candy....maybe a planned treat on the weekend? Dunno, but I walked past a huge table of chocolate chip cookies all day long today. Didn't have one. Damn near killed me!

MyG: Congrats on those 17 days. It will get better and better and better.

5 miles and weights. The funk has lifted. Amazing how that happens when you move your butt....the thing you don't wanna do is the best thing for you....kinda like not drinking!

LF,
I'm with Coffee, def. nothin wrong with taken a break; .....glad you're back at it !

Coffee,
you working high reps on the weights ?

Ghostly,
Was thinking today about what you asked about the odometer on the front wheel. Since I walk right past my trainer for 5 days now, and my hybrid still out in the shop !?!
Been stretching every night in the hot tub here at work at the end of my shift. Still such a wimp, I haven't hit the pool for laps yet. Blaming it on this winter weather and all.

anyway, I guess we're going to have to move the magnet off the front wheel to the rear, ....yours is straight wired, so maybe you can find someone to help you get that sensor mounted to the front fork to the rear (ie. will have to add some length to the wire. )

I guess it'll be easier on mine since it's a wireless type, ....never thought about that being inoperable till you mentioned it.

Coffee,
Congrats on your resolution !?!
Was such a sugar junky,...... would wake up some mornings wondering who the hell scattered the little tinfoil candy wrappers all over the floor ........ scary. Candy was my weakness , for sure. Discovering truffles OMG.

Turning into a vampire lately, .....sleeping till 1pm.

Finally developing some different income options for the future. Trying not to obsess on any of it too much right now. Like fitness; & sobriety, ....need to stay focused on the journey, in the present.

Time to hit that dang hot tub and do some more water aerobic stretching stuff.

Hi guys!

Took the dogs for a 2 mile walk last night..the gym was crowded, I'm sure that will go away soon

Coffee...I'm going to try and up my water and fruit/veggie intake too. My fridge is broken and since it happened during the holidays my landlord couldn't get it fixed right away, so I was having dinner at WholeFoods every night....expensive! But at least I was eating my veggies!

Topspin - Good luck on your new income ventures...me too...let's think positive thoughts together!

Grandfather - congrats on your progress

Tom: No, the tornadoes did not affect me personally. Thanks for asking. My sister lives right in the area that they went through, but her family and home are fine. There was apparently a lot of damage and I think 3 deaths. Do you know what part your family lives in?

LaFemme: I can't help but laugh when I go to the gym during the first, oh, I'd say 6 weeks of a new year and it is JAM PACKED. You are right, it never lasts!

Glad to see everyone is doing well. The sucrose-free thing is interesting. I'm not ready for it yet, though. I am enjoying my mocktails (various kinds of juice, club soda, diet tonic water) too much these days. Funny, I never was a mixed drink person OR really a juice person before. Not great, but still better than beer! When I am further along in my sobriety, I will think about making further changes. As for now, I am sober and feelin' GRRREAT!

If I remember right, my niece lives in an area called "Maryland Heights". South Westerly direction from the airport. We were about 10 to 15 minutes away from St. Charles.

We went to a big family party there two years ago and I joined a family friend also from California, who rides. We rented bikes in St. Charles and did 40 to 50 miles (sorry no GPS) of the "Katy Trail". it was really nice change of pace for both of us. We planned to do this ahead of time so we traveled with road shoes and our own pedals and they installed them for us on the rental bikes.

I am glad that you were not affected by the Tornadoes. Here we have to live with earthquakes (and wild fires).
~~~~~~~~~
Got another 20 miler in this morning, but had no energy last night for my planned resistance session. Maybe tonight.....
Greetings everyone! Keep it up. Today I moved my 2 miler to a treadmill. By the time I bike home, I think I'm just not ready to go back out the door again, maybe in the spring.
I like all this talk about improving our diets, it's really something I wish I could get a handle on (lol, among other things). I'm also trying another diet of sorts, I'm trying to leave this laptop on the table and not bring it to bed with me. Too much screen time every day, I'm trying to get back to reading a book before bed.
Day 18, I feel good about it.
Wow, Ultra - Very cool link! Very inspiring. Thanks for that :^)
Great Job GF on the run! Muddy shoes and all. Trails are the best... a couple of people that I run with occasionally don't like them - all those roots and rocks and stuff, but there's just nothing like being out in nature and gets something going inside.
Ever hear of the Warrior Dash -- I'm seriously thinking about doing one this year. A friend at work is thinking about it also and now my trainer is interested...
TDC - great job on the ride! Nice PR.
LF - Glad you're out there doing something again! Holidays were pretty brutal for me also - food-wise anyway.
Coffee - let me know how the no sucrose thing goes. I want to do something, just not sure what yet. I guess just cutting out things that I KNOW are sweets would be a really grand start!!
I'm back in the game - met with my trainer tonight and did a bunch of leg exercises and abs and such - some with a big ball thingy and some with a medicine ball (6-pounder). Told her I was going to do an easy run - 3 miles... she said I might not want to do that since we did so much on the quads and stuff - but I felt fine.... until I ran the first 1 1/2 miles and my legs felt like rubber. Squeezed out two miles... I guess that's why she's the trainer and I'm not :^)
DB - Yeah, stick with the sobriety situation first - plenty of time for working on 'other' issues later. You're doing awesome!
Still think I have a touch of something physically, but working through it for now.
Ok, gotta get some rest.... three hours shy of 90 days for me! Yea!!! Happy kickin' y'all!
Congrats on 90 days R4r!
DB...I also love my mocktails and was not a mixed drink drinker...go figure...I think its that I'm so surprises to see the variety of drinks out there after drinking nothing but wine and coffee for 15 years...lol:-)
It was a nice night so I dragged the dogs on a 4 mile walk to the beach and back. It was a beautiful quiet night and you couldn't see that the snow wasn't pretty anymore. Wish that everyone shoveled their sidewalks though! Walked past the haunted estate...it was too dark and quiet...I kind of freaked myself out thinking that maybe it was the native American spirits haunting the whole property...and yes I have an overactive imagination
Cheers!
Hi Everyone!
Nice hour walk tonight. Home for dinner, now watching Biggest Loser. Those people are so inspirational to me.
Did well with no sugar. But, got home from work and thought I was starving to death! I had a half a sandwich, should have tried a glass of water instead....oh well.
It'a amazing how much of it is just habit...got in my car and automatically reached for the Sugar Babies I had stashed in the console. Stopped myself in time....but my heavens! Just automatic.
Top: Glad to see you weighing your options. I think I"ve found....to get out and try new things. Look at those options as a possibility rather than just a 'nah....I'm too busy'. Best wishes to you.
Ghostly, .....couldn't get my odometer to pick up a signal on the back tire, oh well. May relocate it to the top tube close to the saddle; .... maybe it would work there ?
Brought my bike and trainer to work and did 3 sessions (for the first time ) about 2o minutes each. Then hit the hot tub for a million and one knee stretches; ..then some upper body work for 30 minutes.
Coffee, I can see now how the TM, ..."just ain't the same thing"
I can see how it's WAY LESS FUN when your body's not moving through space. Really missed that aspect, cycling tonight.
All I started thinking about actually, ....was:
................ shouldn't i be hooked up to one of those contraptions making free electricity !?! lo
Kickin' gang, last night (tonight, this morning ? ) ....makes 9 months sober for me.
Grateful for SR, ...and glad you guys are here.
No pain meds yesterday, not even an ibuprophen. Been taking smaller and smaller doses, and less frequently the last 3 weeks. Always been kinda scared of'm really.
Booze and herb were always my DOC. Always afraid to rotate anything else in there !
Stay Strong, ..... Kickin Crew
RfR , Congrats on the 90 !!
Tom: I missed that! A huge congrats, R4R!
Top: Forgot to answer your question, I do 20x2 or 3 reps w/10 pounders. It's just my own homemade program....takes about half an hour.
And....Congrats to you on 90 days! 90 days!
I've wondered how you are doing with pain meds. I know that I'm even scared of cough medicine, so to Have to take meds and control yourself.....even though alcohol was my doc....still scary.
I'm just sitting here thinking....would love to see a study on the effects of exercise on early sobriety. In my head....it saved my life. But I wonder if people who exercise have 'different' withdrawl/recovery? Don't know.
Stewart: Glad to see you. Sometimes it's okay to lurk! It's awesome that the thread is big, but then it's hard not to leave something out...so do what you can!
Okay, I gotta get! Have a Great Day!
