First time posting here

Hi everyone,

I usually post on the loved ones of substance abusers page, but I'm glad this one is here.

Thought I'd share something positive...my aunt, who hasn't been sober in almost 8 years, just got 3 months this weekend. Unfortunately, my uncle is still using/drinking, I hope she can do this while her partner is still in his active addiction.

But, regardless, thought it would be something positive to share. She's even going to AA (has never, ever, attempted to actually work a program outside of being "dry")

Thanks for sharing the good news.

I found this here at SR and thought it was a great read: The Power Behind ?One Day at a Time?

Best wishes :)

I am glad you posted. Your Aunt is doing great. Don't worry about what her partner does or does not do. Once she makes her decision not to drink, it is all about her. My husband used to get drunk every night till this last July, and then he quit drinking whiskey and now just drinks beer. It is better now, and maybe one day he will quit. It has not stopped me from not drinking or made me want to drink. I know how much better life is without alcohol. She can do this. It is not an easy journey, but it is so worth it.
