O/T - Social Media Challenge for kids – be aware!!!

A new Facebook challenge is emerging and kids at alarming rates are taking part in the shocking challenge. The idea of the challenge is for kids to go missing for as long as they possible can. To hide from their parents and loved ones for as long as possible, the participants are awarded a higher score every time they are mentioned on social media. Kids are given points if their frantic parents take to Facebook or Twitter to sound the alarm that they are missing. Back in 2015 there was a similar challenge on Facebook called Game of 72, where kids disappeared for 24, 48 or 72 hours.

Currently with child trafficking, senseless violence acts towards the elderly and disabled, drugs at an epidemic level, and stupid games like this, I just do not get it! What is happening to our society and children and more importantly how can we improve the home environment so that kids can at least stand a chance these days. OK, rant over!!!

Wha???????

How senseless. I've never been happier that neither of us is on social media at all. I'm going to ask her if the kids are talking about this at school though - we just had a great conversation last week about how shocked she was at "how easy it is to buy pot in middle school". (her words)

And in a scary sad way, most of the parents whose children participated in this said the same thing. They never in a million years would have thought there kids would do something so stupid.

That's the hard part of rumors, kids hear about it and dare each other to do it. In my area there has been a few kids who disappeared for about 2-3 days and all said it was because they were dared/challenged on FB by their peers.

The same with attacking the elderly or destruction of cars/property and videoing taping it in order to get as many likes as they can.

Hello peeps.

This thread is definetly important, but it way, way too off-topic for this forum. I have moved it over to the cafe where you can continue the discussion.
