TOPIC: Share Your Experience With Exercise or Planking

Hello SR Folks

How many of you guys exercise on a regular
bases? Do you go to the gym or workout at
home?

Does it take you awhile to get motivated
or started when you want to begin a new
exercise?

As you know the older we get our metabolism
slows down and makes it harder to burn off
all those extra calories we consume on a daily
bases. Right?

Would you like to share what kind of
exercises you do on a daily bases? Who
knows, what you share can motivate
someone looking for some encouragement
to get started themselves?

For the past month or so I have been
exercising in our pool using resistant
bands and a noodle bike everyday for
any where's from 30 minutes to a hour
sometimes.

Then several days ago I was interested
in learning about Planking. Have you
heard of it? Do you use it in your exercise
routine?

I remember not too long ago seeing
Cher on tv, maybe receiving some kind
of award or something, not sure, but
anyway.....after her dance routine she
shared how she could Planking for 5 minutes
to keep her stomach flat and in shape.

She seemed to be extremely proud to
be able to do that for that long at her
age. A huge accomplishment in my opinion.

Anyway....I decided to begin Planking a few
days ago and now in day 3 planking for 30secs.

I know that's not a lot, but hey...you try
doing it and let me know how hard it is....lol

Anyway....

Below I added a link for you to look at
what I'm using to help me plank one day
at a time.

I walk 30-60 minutes every day, try to go as fast as I can to get my heart rate up a little. It's pretty good for my body, and I get to think things over and whatnot so also good for my spirit. Now and then I'll have to skip a day, and I never feel quite the same when I do. Walking is good clean fun and nobody gets hurt! I used to run a little but I kept turning my ankles. I think I have relatively thin ankles.

Thank you buddy Snaz....

When I was living in Houston, I found
a park not far from me that I used as
an escape and a place to walk or jog.

This park had a 1 mile or 2 mile sidewalk
that wrapped around several huge soccer
fields, tennis court and playground for kids.

There were trees and bushes that outline
the entire areas which gave me shade while
walking along with concrete park benches
to sit if you want.

Id go many times when id have the park
to myself or with few folks. And would
go at all different times of the yr to experience
the different seasons adding up on memories.

I started out with a slow walk then to
a quick pace walk. Like a fast walk run
before a slow jog trying to keep it up
without running out of breath and
achieving that runners high.

Anyway....I would see several good
runners who could and would run
circles around me and often wondered
how in the heck do those guys run for
so long with a good stride like they could
run for days.

Anyway...seeing guys do that kept me
inspired to keep doing what I was doing.

No, I never became a good runner but
I did my best to accomplish what I wanted
like keeping in shape somewhat. Esp.
since I enjoy eating like most.

Since I returned here to Baton Rouge,
I often think about that awesome park
which was a gift to me in recovery to
appreciate and was glad it was there
for me when times got rough thinking
how I wished I was back home here in
BR.

Yep, miracles do happen.

Snaz.....im glad you are walking and
getting in some good exercises in
over there where you are. It's the
not getting up and moving that one
cant accomplish a good thing.

Good health and some or a lot of
happiness along the way.

I walk, visit the gym, though, as a lifelong gym rat, I must say it's a real chore and I don't enjoy it.
I have recently returned to yoga class, which I love, and I would like to start swimming laps again.
No joke about the metabolism thing.
I always gain 5 lbs in winter, lose it in summer. This year I gained 10 and it's still with me.
I'm 65.
I do all the right things, avoid carbs, load up on protein, don't drink soda or eat fast food or processed food, and yet....
Sigh.

I sigh too and quite often. The older ive
gotten the harder it is to loose that stubborn
weight.

I'm glad you have gone back to your yoga
class Maudcat which is something I have
not experienced yet. I'm pretty sure lots of
folks do some sort of yoga, pilates or stretches.

It's good to keep moving and stretching
and staying as limber as we can because
if we don't, we will get so stiff and moving
fluidly will be tough.

I never had a swimming pool in all
the places I lived except the first
apts I moved into when I was 18.

It was until about 9 yrs ago when
I met my now husband and we started
to date and I learned he had an in ground
pool at his home. I emmediately thought
how lucky he was and how great it would
be to exercise in or just relax.

So to having our pool is a gift in recovery
that I am truly grateful for and try to use it
as often as I can. Now since ive gotten back
into the routin of exercising everyday, I'm
not looking forward to Winter because it
will be too cold and I ain't going in that brrrr
cold water....lol

I do have a glider that is pool friendly
that I use to work out on along with
a treadmill that I haven't given a fair
chance on yet as well as a tower that
you are not suppose to put in the pool
but I did anyway....lol I wanted to have
something I could use to do leg lifts which
I can do about 10 of.

Cant do the pull ups but if I could push the
tower deeper down the pool in the deeper
water then I could reach the bar, but the
incline in the pool would make the tower
fall over..... lol

I'm always looking for exercise pool
equipment that not so costly and the
tower was cheap, so if it rusts out too
bad I can toss it.....so far its working
out okay but rust is showing....lol

Using stretch cords you find at Walmart
are excellent for stretching out ya limbs.

Okay, I'm about to do 30secs of planking
and will return shortly to let you guys know
if I succeeded or flopped.....not gonna flop tho....lol

brb....

My exercise routine consists of several daily dog walks, and climbing the stairs to the second floor many times a day. The dog walks are my favorite form of exercise.

Walking is good least. Gets us up and out from
a comfy siting position which really isn't good
for us if we're sitting for a long time.

And I'm guilty for sure in doing that.

What I miss mostly about when living
in Houston was this park not far from
me that id go to 2 to 3 times a week just
to walk or jog or escape.

There was a 1 to 2 mile sidewalk that wrapped around
several huge soccer field, tennis court and a childrens
playground and trees that outlined the entire perimeter.

It was soo cool, esp when id go with only a few
others their, peaceful, quiet, serene where I
could jog at my pace with many favorite song
tunes playing in my mind to each step, listening
and seeing birds, experiencing all seasons with
the ever changing colors in the trees and flowers.

Oh how I miss that place.

Anyway, I still get off my bootie and
we walk Walmart, or Lowes almost
everyday, picking up whatever we
forgot to buy the day before, , then
return to juice up, then exercise in the
pool, planking and back to my recliner.

I'm an early bird so I get up around 4:30
and in bed around 6-7. When I get up early
then I'm ready for bed early and that way
I don't have to sit up wanting to eat everything
in the kitchen.

Just cant sit to watch a good show without
eating something good like a whole Ben &
Jerry's or Haagen Das or a whole bowl of
buttered popcorn or a big candy bar. So
id rather go to bed early, tape my shows and
sit all day the next day and watch them...

Oh noooooo, I'm busted....lol

Anyway....Keep walking least and exercising
guys. Its good for a healthier YOU...!!!!!

Well, I planked to 39seconds dropping
at the last second. I tried to hold on but,
it was a no go. Tomorrow is a rest day
and will pick up on Wed. with 45 sec.
I hope ill be ready....

Too much going on today that had me
thrown off my routine. A leaky kitchen
sink due to a worn out disposal had to
be replaced which was unavoidable.

Gotta keep the plumbing working right
to avoid further damage. Right?

I did get my swimming exercise in for
30 or so minutes just before thunder
and rain came in. Whew...that was close.

I'm glad I got my swim in cause I didn't
make it yesterday due to rain. So, I'm
having to check the forecast daily and
make my plan to swim inbetween showers
since they come everyday.

I'm sooo ready for cooler weather now
since it is like a sauna out there with so
much dampness and heat. Whew.....It
makes going in the pool a pleasure.

Did anyone get to the gym today? Or
get in some walking, jogging, riding a
bike or whatever you enjoy doing to
get your metabolism up and running?

Hello SR folks.

Today I got my swim
exercises in. No, I don't do
the jump off the diving board....lol
We don't have one, but I do use the
ladder to climb into the pool so I
don't get my hair wet.

After I finished that, came inside,
got changed and did 45 sec of planking. yay..!!!!

Tomorrow I will do another 45 sec before
moving on.

Anyone get some exercising in today?

I swam today, too.
It was heaven.
Not making any promises, but going to try to get to the pool 2-3 times a week.
AND,
I planked for 20 seconds.
You are inspiring, aasharon!

That is AWESOME Maudcat.

I keep telling myself that the hot/warm
weather will soon come to an end and it
will be too chilly and cold to go swim
outside, so I have to take as much
advantage of the pool now before
I cant.

I try to stay in for 30 minutes before
my inner clock tells me that's enough.

20 sec of planking is a thumbs
up in my book. I need to try to think
about something else while planking
cause if I focus on what I'm trying to
do, i'll fold before times up.

Maybe some music with a good
beat or something to make the time go
by quickly.

Keep up the good work Maudcat..!!!!

Well, I completed 45 seconds of planking
here on my 8th day. Tomorrow will be 60
secs or 1 minute. Oh noooooo....lol

I also got in my pool exercise in for
30 minutes before the rain, but it
hasn't rained yet. Which is okay cause
we're kinda soaked and need some
drying out a bit.

Hope you guys are exercising some
today because its good for the heart.

I did a 24 second plank today.
Go, me.
And my yoga instructor showed me some hip opening exercises and urged me to practice at home.
I did the groceries for my mother today, so I have time to swim tomorrow.
My goals are to do things I like, like yoga and swimming, to become fitter, more flexible, and stronger.
And if I lose a little weight, that would be good too.
Not asking for much here.

Way to go Maudcat...!!!!! and you had time
to help your mom. That is awesome..!!!

I have to remind myself that it took time
for me to build the weight I added to my
body and now it has to take time to come
off. If I don't eat the same stuff I did to
add the weight and replace it with healthier
foods like veggies, lean meats, fish added
to my daily exercise then the results will
be positive.

I never use the scale. I can tell if I'm loosing
or shaping up by the way my clothes fit and
what I look like in the mirror.....or the glass
doors when walking in Walmart.....lol

Yep, I look a tad slimmer in my long dresses....
No pants either, just don't like to wear binding
clothes. Yuk. Gotta be comfy and not stuffed
in my clothes.

That's the way some of us Southern ladies
like to dress.
