Dennis Lehane

This guy is pretty much, apart from Stephen King, my favourite modern day author. He writes mainly crime thrillers, all set in Boston. I've read all of his books and find his style and stories fascinating. His books are always extremely cathartic aswell.

He's written six books in the Kenzie And Gennaro series which are
A Drink Before The War
Darkness Take My Hand
Sacred
Gone Baby Gone (a cracking movie's been made based on this one)
Prayers For Rain
Moonlight Mile

Two historical thrillers based in early 20th Century Boston which are loosely connected by one character
The Given Day
Live By Night

The gothic thriller Shutter Island, and the epic Mystic River which is like a modern day Greek tragedy. Both of these have been turned into films.

He also has Coronado a short story collection which I've not gotten around to reading as of yet...

Like I say, I'm a huge fan of Lehane - and I especially loved the Kenzie And Gennaro books. If you guys ever fancy some decent, layered and thought provoking crime fiction - Lehane is your man.

Any other fans in here?

I like him, too, Rodney.
Though I prefer his thrillers and Kenzie and Gennaro series to his historical fiction.

Mystic River is an amazing and tragic book. The characters stayed with me for a long time after finishing the book.
