New experiences are far and few between when one reaches a certain age- some people are good at seeking them out and keeping their lives rich and full. This has not been me in recent years, but I'm reaching out now, doing more than I have in the past- inviting myself on vacations, (it's not as lecherous as it sounds) going out on spontaneous adventures alone, spending time truly focusing on my sobriety and finally, the biggest one- opening up to new friends. Making a new friend at 56 is both scary...

11 months of not obsessing over when I can drink
334 days of doing the next right thing
11 months without a craving or desire for a drink
11 months of being honest
11 months of not giving up
11 months of caring about myself
11 months of working to stay humble and open to listening and learning
11 months of taking care of my dog and cat properly
333 sober bedtimes
334 mornings without a hangover
11 months...

I learned this from people getting better by using the program who care about me

I will start by sharing that for me going to an AA meeting has always been a good way of avoiding to stay alone in times of need. I know that there I can meet like minded poeple. It's a sure way to be in a safe place and not drink. I can have a nice time if I want to and I should be able to find at least one person I could talk with and vent if I need to. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in spring of 2013. I had surgery to take away a small tumor and arm pit lymph nodes on left side. I went through chimiotherapy and radiotherapy. Then I felt better and for the next seven years it seemed like I was getting off the hook. But two years ago, cancer came back ... In my bones and on my peritoneum. I went through chimio again, at the hospital, and now am taking it in pills at home. Also, once a month, I get a 15 minutes transfusion of medication to help...
