The title of this post is what the check-out lady said to me this evening as I was buying supplies for our quiet little New Year's Eve celebration. She had just finished scanning two bottles of sparkling juice.

"Yes," I said. "And for me too," I added quickly.

"Really?" she asked in borderline disbelief.

"Sure. My drinking days are over."

A+

Posted 11-23-2014 at 10:12 AM by HeartsAfire

Today I have 100 days of sobriety.

One. Hundred. Days.

I work in administration for a public school district and am a parent of 2 school-aged kiddos. 100 has great significance to me. 100 in my world = an A+. It means a subject or topic has been mastered and itís safe to move on. As a parent it means that a teacher has done their job and my child gets it. 100 in the world of sobriety means something very different. It means Iím simply off to a good start. The...

We have a multi-million dollar high school stadium in the area. People can make 6 figures a year coaching competitive boys baseball teams. I know families who spend their entire weekends at games and/or tournaments (or travelling to & from). We know boys who are on more than one sports team at a time - who...

Twas The Night Before School

Posted 08-24-2014 at 09:05 PM by HeartsAfire

Kids are showered, in bed and attempting to fall asleep. Clothes are ironed for the week (including my own), lunches are packed for tomorrow (including my own), the house is straightened up, laundry has been done, folded and put away. Basically I'm all squared away for the first week of school. That's something I never would have been able to do drunk. I would've said, "Oh I'll just get up early in the morning and get all of my stuff done then." Then I would've slept until the last possible...
