Since joining SR I've done an substantial amount of reading of, and responding, to forum posts. But not everything I think about deserves a new thread or a reply to one, so I decided to create a blog as a place to work out (in writing) all the things recovery has led me to think about. Comments welcome and appreciated.

Whatever you are venting about, there is a good chance that someone, if not a majority of people, will relate.

We’ll relate to the anger, the despair,...

Reflections on Two Years Sober

In a post congratulating me on my two-year-sober mark, a fellow SR member asked me how the second year sober compares to the first year. I think the first thing that strikes me is how much your perspective changes in the course of a year. I liken it to having the flu. Let me explain.

A few years back I was sick a week with the flu, as sick as I can remember being. After a week I felt better. After two weeks I felt even better. After three weeks I would have told you I was back to...

It has been a while since I last posted a blog entry. I wanted to conclude the series I started months ago, but I was worried that I had finally reached the limits of my knowledge about alcoholism and addiction. But after many weeks of reading and thinking, I now know what I want to say and how to say it in such a way as to perhaps be helpful to someone.

If I can quit…can everyone? Part One

Posted 06-15-2011 at 03:23 PM by doggonecarl (Musings on Alcohol, Drugs, Addiction and Recovery)

It has been a while since I’ve written to my blog. I worked out most my issues with alcohol and addiction, which was the purpose of starting the blog. However, the topic that brings me to the blog today is one I’ve been bouncing around for a while. Wasn’t sure how to approach it before, and as I sit down to write this, I’m still not sure of the shape it’s going to take. This entry might not come off as supportive as some would like to see on a recovery site. Trust me, my intent is not to knock anyone...
