Head South Towards Heaven

Wisconsin was in my fatherís eyes.
Cigarettes and the paper mill took his lungs.
Tennessee was his blood. Surely he would
have liked his hymn-wrapped bones
carried back to Memphis
laid down at the old Ames Plantation.


Joyfully and accepting I go to my grave
because dark times and dark things
have been transformed
into the sober life you promised me.
