Need some help

I was taking 400mg oxycontin per day, chewing them. I decided I needed to stop. I live in Boston, and I went to NY to see an addictino specialist who started me on a Suboxone program, he gave me a shot of buprenorphine right there in the office, then a subutext tablet, both of which served to send me into horrible withdrawal. Somehow I made it back to Boston, my parents came and got me, and I am on day 4 now of a 3.5 8mg pill per day of suboxone. My questions are, what is the withdrawal from the subuxone like in length and degree, and how long do you think it will be before I am truly in a normal mental state again. I'm not wavering on quitting, but I'm struggling with the uncomfortableness of this program and what looks like a long, long, long road ahead. Thanks for all of your help and God bless you all.

ds,
I sent a personal message to someone here who has experience with Suboxone to ask her to answer your post on the Newcomers Board. My knowledge of buprenorphine is academic, but my understanding is that the taper should be individualized in terms of how rapidly they decrease the dose so that you suffer minimal withdrawal symptoms. So the "length and degree" is going to depend on a number of factors. I urge you to express your concerns to the addiction specialist and work with him on the appropriate tapering schedule.

Love, peace, and hugs,
Eddie
