I was thinking about us Moms

I don't know what's wrong with me today,
but I started laughing about us Mom's and
how tickled we get over the smallest
things. And I was thinking if I wrote
you all and said "Hey, guess what! My
son found a nice bridge to live under,
he has cool running water, plenty of
shade, a little cot, and a campstove,
isn't that wonderful?" And you would
all write back---Oh my gosh, that is such
good news!!!!!! (Do you think I'm losing
it????)

Hugs and prayers,

That is true and funny, Josie

Oh, I don't know.

I was reaching for my deodorant this morning and I accidently bumped my son's toothbrush. I have been fighting with him for 10 years not to sneak and use my toothbrush.

I accidently bumped his tooth brush right into the toilet. Something came over me and I just stood there looking in the toilet with a smile on face.

I was thinking:

If I throw the toothbrush away, he'll use mine before I have a chance to buy him a new one.

If I put the toothbrush back it would pay him back for all those years he used mine and didn't tell me.

I could soak the tooth brush in bleach, but I wouldn't want to use it after the toilet no matter how sanitary it is.

Then I had a panic attack thinking! I wonder if he's ever knocked my toothbrush in the toilet without telling me. I'm almost sure that in all these years it has at least happened once. I felt sick.

Anyway, I was going to come to the board and tell you all how proud I was of myself because I threw the toothbrush away that fell in the toilet. I practiced step one.

We are a funny group Josie.

I think that's why we are able to have so much fun in between.

Hugs,

MG

I am laughing on the floor.

MG I KNOW just how much the toothbrush thing bugs you. And I can just picture you trying to decide what to do.

And Josie - it really doesn't take much to be "good news" to us. Our "good news" is that he went to jail (so maybe he'll get clean there) and another day our "good news' is that he didn't go to jail. Go figure.

Some days I just can't take anymore "good news" LOL.

But thank God we have our sense of humour, as dark and sick as it may seem sometimes.

Oh, that is too funny.

I just know I'm going to go home and see him brushing his teeth with his toothbrush after he finds it in the trash.

I'll let out a holler of shock and he'll just say "oh well, who cares"

Then I'll make him go wash his hands after he throws the toothbrush back in the trash. Then I will make him gargle with peroxide and tell him he can't use any of the drinking glasses or utensils for at least 24 hours.

Then he'll say "whatever", and go outside and read a book.

Hugs,

MG

Josie

I am glad your sense of humour is seeing you through. You started this post and it has kept me laughing tonight.

I pictured a conversation between an addict's mother and a "normal" mother.

My son is making me crazy.

My son is making me crazy.

He dropped out of college and went to work with UNICEF.

He dropped out of rehab and is living under a bridge.

He knows his sinuses act up in dry climates.

He has a strange rash.

He writes me every day and sends pictures.

He calls me every day for money. I get the picture.

He has a new girlfriend who seems very nice and works as a vulunteer for C.U.S.O.

He has some new chick who is out on probation and owns an awful lot of stereos.

I hope he comes home soon. He can live here while he goes back to college to finish.

He better not think he's moving back here, he'll have to go back to rehab first.

I can't chat, I have to go to a church meeting tonight, we're planning a bazaar.

I can't chat, I have to go to a Nar-Anon meeting tonight, we're planning a "retreat".

Nice talking to you Zeta.

Yes, have a good evening June.

Thanks for the fun Josie!!!!

That was just too funny!!!! I am practically rolling on the floor laughing!!! The A in my life is not my son, but the story still fits. That whole exchange was great! I can just picture myself saying "yeah, he picked a new spot for his tent and stole some one's camp stove. There is now a slim chance he might spend a cent or so on food, isn't that a good thing!!??"

Thanks for the laughs!

Oh Oh, I want the green bunny slippers. That way when I'm looking through the tall grass for the hidden whiskey bottle it won't show the grass stains.

Have you ever been out gardening without your glasses and you reach down to pick up something and find you're holding a slug and then scream and throw it.

Thanks Ann,

MG

This thread is a treasure!

I have a toothbrush story, too. Dino left his here at the warehouse a couple of visits ago. It was "lost". One supposes the cat got to it. I found it behind the toilet (ick), but cleaned it off and kept it because I use old toothbrushes for cleaning makeup out of collars and sometimes for painting or distressing clothes. I had already used it for a couple of vile chores, including cleaning the sink grout. Unfortunately I left it on the bathroom shelf instead of putting it in with the paintbrushes. The following weekend he came grinning into the sewing room saying "you found my toothbrush!" I said "you didn't put it in your mouth did you?" You should have seen the grin disappear. "Why?"

EEEEYEEEEWWWWW!!!!!

Oh that is so funny.

I was so proud of my son's growth last night. I came home and asked him if he took the toothbrush out of the trash and asked if he used it. He said "I almost did, but then I thought, maybe mom threw it away for a reason"

That was a real step for him. Thinking something through before acting.

lol, He said" you should have left a note" lol

Now if my toothbrush was in the trash, I don't think I would need a note. Growth is still needed here, but some progress has been made.

Hugs,

MG

I feel I should appologize for now laughing so hard over the "should have left a note" comment from your son!!! I am almost peeing my pants laughing and it isn't nice to laugh at someone elses expense. But honestly... one needs a note explaining in detail why one should not remove one's tooth brush from the garbage and use it???????????

LOL --- LOL --- LOL!!!!!

Anns.

Great conversation . .moms with the normal and addict sons.
Sometimes I feel so sad when I hear people discussing their children's achievements. .college. .jobs. .etc. It is like a sad melancholy feeling of what might have been. than I have to remind myself that all things are possible through my Higher Power God and He is bigger than any addiction. .even heroin and cocaine. .and stronger than any jail. .and more loving than a mother can be and I trust all will be well. Today. .and than I start all over again.

Blessings Mo
