C'mon, Get Happy!
Hi everyone! I'm new here. My husband is an alcoholic and lately I'm finding it difficult to cope. I am normally a happy, enthusiastic person but I seem to be slipping into more and more resentment and sadness. I am getting to the point where detachment seems to be the way to go, and I'd like your input. My husband is a good man and I have no intentions of leaving him, but the emotional roller-coaster is getting to me and I want to shut off/unplug.

Hi! I'm glad you're here. It's true, there are so many resources here, and people who are dealing with many of the same issues that you are.
Have you considered checking out a local Al-Anon group? I'm from California, and there are tons of local al-anon groups in Southern California, meeting just about every day of the week. They're all different, except you'll find wonderful people at each one. It's a great source of support, too.
About "detaching with love" (and there are power posts on this here), once I began to do this with my boyfriend, and NOT arguing, preaching, pleading, venting, I noticed a new sense of calm, and my usually bubbly and optimistic personality coming back. It felt like I was regaining "me." And when you have that calmer perspective back, everything seems that much clearer.
Hugs and welcome,
kate
