Ot .....

Here is a picture of my daughter and her father at her first formal dance, held Friday 6/2/06! I am happy he is sober and beaming happiness with his daughter, one I know he is truly very proud to call his daughter.

My daughter is 14 years old and my husband is, er, um, hmmm, let me see .... 54 years old! Patty I'm sure Mr. Studley would love to come with me to visit with you guys .... it's getting him to take off work that's the issue. Mr. Studley is all work and no fun most times, but I do have my ways to convince him to have some fun ..... (vbg)!

I have to say, looking at recent pictures of him, and looking back at pictures when we were all drinking and partying ...... it's nice to see clear eyes and healthy skin tone!

Wow, what a beauty! Judy she looks like such a sweetheart. Yup, he is a hottie too! Good genes. LoL I can't imagine my daughter being that old. They had a 4-6 grade dance recently, another mother and I were lurking in the hall with tears in our eyes when a slow dance came on. A boy even bought her a soda! Her dad had a fit with the dancing but they were supervised! You should be proud Judy, I know I am. Kerry

Out of curiosity (no biggy) do you tell him when you notice stuff like that? I tell D because I'm a big gob and as soon as it's in my head it pops out!!

Yes, she did have a good time! They are all only in 8th grade, so the girls do the typical "screaming" stuff with each other, and the boys exude this goofy persona's. She went with her boyfriend, who is a nice kid, but goofy and very polite. It's hard to explain. His family is nice also.

After we dropped them off at the Firehouse, both families and friends went out to eat. It took forever to get served, but we had a great time! We went to a place that is a bar/restaurant downstairs, and a regular restaurant upstairs, which is where we were. Jon, my son wanted to play pinball downstairs by the bar area, so Jay took him down there to play. I got tired of waiting for our food, so I went downstairs to shoot a game of pool and I see my husband leaning up against the bar ........ GASP! For a brief second I lost my head, but realized he was getting quarters for the pinball machines. He was fine with it. It was very strange and I have to tell you, seeing him leaning up against that bar, he looked so natural and so good standing there! Yikes ......

Sometimes I do, but mostly I don't. Jay knows that drinking would have killed him and he works very hard to stay healthy (eating etc) and look his best. Oddly, he is the most unassuming, not conceited person I know. He is comfortable with who he is, what he is and my daughter is exactly, I mean exactly the same way!

........ and I wanted to add that my daughter has been through a lot of trauma and loss in her very few years. The loss of her brother to cancer when she was 6 years old, an alcoholic father for 11 of her 14 years of life and the birth of a new brother when she was 7 years old.

I did not pretend to know how to support her because I didn't and I wasn't so arrogant to think that I could counsel her myself.

Lacy saw her in-school child life specialist, went to art therapy classes after the loss of her brother and went to Al Anon with me (she was not interested in Al Ateen). Because of all of these resources I called upon, Lacy is a very mature young lady. She will and can talk about her fears, her insecurities and her happiness. She is not a young lady taken to drama for the most part (except the typical teenage drama).

If I didn't have the thought to ask others to help her and put aside my own ego as her mother, I know that Lacy would be a total and complete mess today! So, I truly do thank all the folks who helped her!

Sorry for that interlude but what you were saying just reminded me, comparing drinking/non-drinking pictures was something that gave D a real boost to giving up. I can't describe what drinking did too his face but it was weird and frightening. Like you I love the sight of his now clear eyes!!

Sometimes I think it takes a few bumps in life to add a little maturity - like you I think getting help is just sensible but that's not all there is to it. I think some folk are the kind who can make use of help and turn painful experiences into learning and growing a big heart!! Maybe it's 'cos I work with kids who've been through hell and I love them to bits!

Judy..........wonderful picture of a beautiful (and handsome.haha) pair. Thank you so much for posting it.

Funny, I was just looking at old pictures of AH and then more recent ones and I (sadly) noticed the opposite in his eyes.......how progressively more irritable, uneasy, "crazy-eyed" he looks as the years progressed. Frightening.

Glad to see your great looking family (minus 2)!
