Al-Anon or Nar-Anon?
Al-Anon or Nar-Anon?
Hello.
Just wondering if anyone can comment on whether it is important to attend Nar-Anon vs. Al-Anon in my current situation. My husband has always drank alot, and I've been concerned and confronted him in November about his drinking. Just found out a month ago that he has been using vicodin and is addicted. He's been sober for a month now, is attending NA, and is seeing a counselor. I feel good about his openness to get help and am optimistic.
Seeking help for myself as well. I attended a couple of Al-Anon meetings back in November (before I knew about the drugs). Have attended a couple of Nar-Anon meetings since recently finding out about his drug use.
I'm wondering if both programs are so similar that it doesn't really matter which I attend. He's got problems with both drugs and alcohol, so I'm guessing it doesn't matter which meeting I go to. Interestingly, though, he feels that if he handles his drug addiction he will still be able to drink beer (although he has "promised" his counselor to stay away from alcohol as well for a while until he gets his head on straight).
Any comments would be appreciated! Blessings to you all.

Switching from drugs to alcohol is still doing the same thing.
He is now using alcohol as a means to cope instead of the drugs.
Only continued therapy will help him discover why he needs to
self medicate. I think Alanon is the perfect place for you to find
support for yourself....I wish you both the best....
