that part will loose its power. The more enjoyable sobriety is, the less you will want to return to that part of things.

Hi Captainee,

Welcome to SR and congratulations on your recovery.

You're absolutely right to think that the real hard work begins when you leave rehab. Recovery is something we must work on daily. I think you know that what you need to do is to fill your life with things that bring you peace and fulfillment. I had to get back to what I used to love doing before I started drinking. I love walking and music. Those were two really good things to start with that brought me a lot of comfort. Another thing I did was to begin to do volunteer work. It was the best thing I could have done. It got me outside of myself and thinking about something bigger than me. It's been a godsend.

I wish you well and hope you keep posting.

Hey there! Congrats on all you've done and Welcome to SR!!!

I just started doing smart recovery too.

My doc was meth, and I missed/miss it too. When I was first detoxing
I was so depressed, etc. I just decided if I was going to kick it, I had
to manage myself different. I needed to replace the drugs and that
initial feeling they gave with something differnt.

lol, I went to concerts a lot in the beginning. I love music and concerts.
I always have, so that was a good thing for me.

I still struggle to find stuff to do to replace the drugs, but I am always
searching for stuff to do to keep me occupied.

Maybe make a list of stuff you like to do.

So Glad you are here!

34 days is great!

You had a four year addiction...AND BEAT IT.

Trust me, the feelings you have will ease. At first they are very powerful, ride them out. Stay busy, it works.

You are bigger and stronger than the dope...you have already proved that.

You, my friend, are a success story...remember that.

Best,

Golf

Welcome and congratulations on your success!

Figuring out who you are post-addiction is unchartered territory for so many of us. It can be a really cool adventure though... just be open to new things and test the waters on different activities. Pretty soon you'll re-discover things you love and discover new things you didn't even expect. Think back to what you used to love doing when you were a child... did you like nature? animals? fashion? go exploring along those avenues of what you liked before you got consumed by the addiction.

So glad you are here and keep doing what you are doing!
