Nervous!
OK here goes... my first thread. I'm going to my first AA meeting tonight and I'm getting more and more nervous by the second. I've got 5 hours to go and would appreciate any words of wisdom/encouragement you might have.
Thanks!

There is absolutely nothing to be nervous about. You don't have to DO anything. If asked, you can say your name and you are just there to listen. You will find that AA LOVES newcomers! If you show just a tiny bit of openness and friendliness it will be returned 10 fold. We were all new once too and know how it feels!
Just take a deep breath. It will be just fine!

P.S. Congratulations on taking this step. This is the step that saved my life!

Hi Zinnia, Welcome to SR glad your here!!
Good for you going to the meeting tonight, just try to relax. I don't know why so many of us are fearful of going to a meeting, (myself included from time to time ). The worst thing that ever happened to me was people being open and welcoming, and I am sure it will be the same for you.
Just listen and you may find comfort and support hearing others stories that are perhaps like your own. I found every story or share had something for me if I looked for the similarity instead of the difference. Always a positive experience.
Look forward to hearing how it goes for you
Take care

Kellye and Ash, Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep your words with me when I'm walking in the door. (Getting myself in there will be the hard part!) And I'll post later to let you know how it went. Thanks again.

Things didn't go so well. I went to the building and there was no meeting--just one of my old professors blathering on about the history of Easter from a world history point of view. I don't know if the meeting was cancelled or what. Then I cried, went home, and drank. But drinking sucked. So I'll be starting over tomorrow and trying to find an actual meeting. And GITR I've never seen a Ben Affleck movie and I hope I never do. Thanks all for your support. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

Sorry to hear it didnt work out, but I am sure you will find something,
keep up the effort, it will be worth it.
Good news is it sounds like you have made up your mind
and are ready to make a change.
