food for thought
are the alcoholics the only ones in our lives addicted to something?
arent we too able to become addicted to SR?
or controlling?
or hiding from decisions?
or whining?
or whatever?
in my own experience... I found when I started to really work my recovery, I had to admit I also had addictions.
My addiction to chaos.
My addiction to helping (enabling).
My addiction to controlling.
My addiction to stimulus.
Just food for thought, but when we see that the alcoholics in our lives suffer an addiction... perhaps we too suffer addictions. Addictions to them or the lifestyle or even denial.

-being right
Im sure there are more, but good thread quietsins.
Interesting thread. I know I'm addicted to controlling situations so they come out MY way, which is of course the RIGHT way. :-) I have spent years making vain (and foolish) attempts to get people to change, to see the light, to hear what I'm saying even though they're emotionally incapable of doing so.... Step 1 was being aware of this deep character defect in myself. Now I sit back when I start behaving in my controllng manner and talk myself out of doing it. I will always grapple with the problem, but as long as I can change my actions, I figure my head will eventually follow.

I figure it all depends on whether something is having a positive or a negative effect on life. I'm addicted to ciggies - the effect is negative.
I come on SR loads but it stimulates me and I think it has a positive effect on life - if the site closed tomorrow it wouldn't be the end of my world or throw me into confusion.
I suppose that's the bottom line for me - whether something is adding to life or taking something away from it.

Yes of course we're as much addicted as the A is.
My problem has been chaos, controlling, trying to get people to change, addicted to everything the A says and does.
That's the beauty of it, we have all the power in our hands to make huge differences in our lives.
