Someone asked me this question this morning:

When I told a friend and coworker that today was my 43rd day without alcohol, he asked "Why are you counting?" I responded "Because 43 days ago I took control of my life. It's a pretty amazing thing." I forget how people who don't have issues with alcohol just don't understand the relevance of staying sober for so many days in a row. Thank goodness I have you folks!

I, too, used to condescend on the subject of measuring progress day by day. I used to feel that spiritual growth is impossible to measure that way, but, you know what? Each back-to-back sober day in a row you ARE building up spiritual energy and stability.

Way to go!! 43 is great!

Exactly! Before recovery I felt like I was the only one on the planet with these problems. When I met people in AA a felt like I had come home. Finally I found people who truly understood because they had been there. What an amazing thing!

We do understand, garsh. Keep counting those days and be proud of your commitment to sobriety.

It takes one to know one as the old saying goes. They don't know us, but we know each other. We're all in the swimming pool together sink or swim.

Hey Garsh,

Congrats on your 43 days (guess 44 now...lol)

We know what it means! I am into week 4, and when I causually mention it to my wife, or a close friend, they kinda look at me like "so, no biggie" I am thankful that I can come here, and find so many people to relate to that know of our inner struggle. I'm going it alone, which for very pvt reasons, I have to, but coming here is the most positive thing I ever did toward getting this monkey off my back.

Wow, 43 days is awesome and something to be very proud of. I remember, one go around, I had made 30 days and like, Chy, hell I wanted a party or something, but the people I shared with were like well good for you.

But, WE are proud of you and you should be too! 43 days is huge!

Congrats!
