Introducing Myself
Introducing Myself
Hello all, just introducing myself. I am Ifayomi, trying to recover from alchoholism, I am trying to understand what is my root problem, why am I addicted to alchohol. I have been sober for a little over 3 months, but realize my dangers. An open bottle of gin is a disaster for me even when taking anabuse, So I wish to find why
Peace

Welcome to SR.
There could be a whole lot of reasons why. For me, just when I think I have it "figured out" I seem to find another layer. Feeling vulnerable, shy, fear of abandonment, and a lack of self-love are on my list. It's complicated.
I hope you stay a while.
Hi If,
Welcome to SR. There are many reasons why we become alcoholics and I think stopping drinking is the beginning of a long journey of self-discovery. For me, I had to begin with real basics such as figuring out ways to like myself and to forgive myself for not being perfect. I think journalling every day is a way to help you move forward and deal with all the stuff.
Congratulations on your 3 sober months and I hope you keep posting.

It is complicated, these reasons - but with a little distance from the drink, they will become more clear. I do believe it important we get to the root of the problem. For me I had some severe beliefs and values that propelled my drinking. I have found them today, but it would take a long time to write about. We all have reasons, I believe, and dont worry, stay calm, you will get insight soon enough. Carol has mentioned AA - also there are plenty of other routes to a much more healthy, happy life - and even if you dont want to join a recovery group, you can make steps to make sure that those reasons get resolved.
