I relatively new here as well. I'm 20 days sober and getting better all the time (cue Beatles). Anyway, expect people you can tell your problems to, ask advice from, and just get some helping hands when you need them. Don't be afraid to write whatever you're feeling and thinking. I've only been here a short time, but I've found some great insight and support. There are different threads for different needs, so make sure to ask depending on your needs.
I used to live in VA, first in Harrisonburg when I went to JMU and then up the road in Woodstock (to where I shall never return for a multitude of reasons). I like Richmond a lot though--almost went to U. of Richmond exept for the rather high price.
Glad you're here. Keep strong and take care.
Hi MLyons,
Glad you found SR - I'm Deg, nice to meet you. I don't come here much now. I first came here when I was 4 or 5 months sober and still strugglng every day to stay that way. Without SR I'd almost certainly have failed.
The slow train from sober, to alcoholic, to sober again takes you through a few quite bizarre little places. Not all of them are nice neighbourhoods, and the odd stop brings you face to face with some demons and monsters you'd probably rather not engage, or even contemplate. There are good stops too and the closer you get to the terminus, the more comfortable the journey's going to get.
I'm a massive fan of our late Mr. Churchill. "If you're going through hell...", he said. "...keep going." He might have been a pompous old git with a drink problem - but somehow, that's maybe what it takes to be the best of guides to the journey we're on.
Keep up the work, and may the pompous old gits be with you.
Deg.
