i got on here kind of thinking "how pathetic am i,that it is Christmas, and here i am on the computer?!" of course,i will be going to be with my kids for dinner and presents in awhile.........but i noticed as i read a thread,"1 member and 43 guests" online. it just made me think of how many people who just cant or wont admit they have a problem--whether it be with their own addictions or someone elses. or the ones who do admit it,but dont do anything at all about it.
how many people, who like i did-hang on for so long....so unhappy, and so confused because of what substances do to the minds of the ones we love. how nice it is that these people at least have this place to come to,to sort things out, vent, get some opinions and help them make the choices that are right for them.even if it is Christmas day.

Yes! I always check Guests, I wonder if they are getting answers, I hope so.
I have seen as high as 53 Quests.
Humans are strange, we rush to read new self help books, buy magazines etc. and probably check out some weird cult, or try snake oil cures, but just cannot go to Al-Anon or AA????

These are 2 of the greatest things ever.

A congressman in AA (retired) commented that everyone needs the AA program and very much so the members in congress. LOL

Merry Christmas to all on SR and all our very welcome Guests.

I am having a wonderfull day, my friend got the 2 gifts I wanted her to get so much.
(She is older, low fixed income). LOL I get happy over others happiness, bet you do too
.

Yes, indeed, this is a wonderful place to come. We all understand each other even though the circumstances do vary some. There are a lot of people going thru the same things we are with addictions. It ruins so many lives.

Thumbs up I agree!

You can't understand unless you try!

BTW... The number of guests is misleading.
Some are real people...some are 'ghosts'
Search engines regularily crawl sites as guests.
Ergo....they inflate the numbers.

While denial seems to be part of the process for many alcoholics/addicts, I see no evidence that the number of 'guests' shown in forum stats relates in any way.

Any number of reasons could be in play here:
> members just hitting the site prior to logging in.
> members unknowingly not signed in because of just clearing cookies at another site.
> members/non-members just browsing to see if anything new has been posted.
> prospective members who prefer to lurk.
> anyone finding the site for the first time.

To assume that the number of 'guests' lays claim to valid, specific statistics to the acceptance of recovery is naive.

(and I say that in a good way)

Some people just use forums to get information. I wouldn't worry, those that are real will post when they want to and get a good helloo back. We're not alone and neither are they, anyone who reads here will know that.

Take care everyone - even the ghosts......
