wondering about a drink
wondering about a drink
A couple of people in a meeting I went to think it is ok to have a drink because it is the holiday. They don't think it is a relapse if they don't do it after the holidays are gone. I think they are full of crap! That it is an excuse they use to drink and not feel guilty.
Any one have any input on this??

It's not funny, yet I'm laughing....
Suggest they read about insanity in the big book, particularly the insanity of the first drink. If they are alcoholic and truly think they can successfully control their drinking during the holidays, then stop afterward, they haven't taken step one. If the BB doesn't get through to them, suggest they present their problem in a meeting and ask for feedback. I doubt they would do it. I'd like to be there to see it.
Edit: Oops, when I saw you refer to drinking, I assumed you were in AA. You probably already know where to find info on powerlessness and insanity in the basic text. Sounds like a good meeting topic might be about how substituting one drug for another releases our addiction all over again.

An alcoholic who wants to drink will use anything as an excuse. Heck, I drank because it was daylight outside. At night, I drank because it was dark. The holiday's? Heck yeah. I drank. Today? No thanks. I'll pass.
