Letting Go

Hi I am new to this chat room and i also am new to Alanon Family group. I have been sober for 15 years and am doing o.k. with my recovery, but the rest of my family is falling apart. My sponsor suggested i go to alanon so I went to two meetings last week that was really good. I have the hardest time in letting the fall like I had to. Please give me some feed back.

Welcome to SR, trese! It's good to have you here...

My best suggestion is to keep coming back to Al-Anon. I've met lots of "double-winners" (what AAs who are also in Al-Anon call themselves here) in the rooms and they mostly say the same thing:

"AA taught me how to stay sober. Al-Anon taught me how to live".

For me, so much of Al-Anon is about learning to have healthy relationships, something I didn't learn how to do growing up with the family disease of alcoholism. Instead, I learned how to dysfunction, and I did it very well.

In recovery, I've now had the chance to focus on the three most important relationships in my life (in the following order), and they've all gotten healthier as a result:

1) My relationship with me.

2) My relationship with my Higher Power.

3) My relationship with all the other living creatures on this planet!

I hope you'll keep coming back. My guess is you'll find the answers you seek...

trese54 - welcome - nocell said it right on - al-anon is about taking care of our side of the street.
