'Twas the Week Before Christmas
'Twas the Week Before Christmas
'Twas the week before Christmas and on Anon Boards,
Codependents were gathered, posting wise words,
We passed out the Kleenex and wiped a few tears
And read of successes and broke out in cheers.
We prayed for our children, and prayed for the A's,
And prayed for the strength to survive Holidays,
We prayed for new courage and prayed for new love,
And prayed to say "thank you" to God up above.
When on a new thread we all read something vile,
We didn't go rescue - that's just not our style
A ghost was the poster, we were quite aghast,
"I'm the Ghost representing codependency past!"
"I'm here to remind you of worry and fear,
of rescues and pleading with everyone dear,
Relationships soured, abuse everywhere,
The things that torment you - does anyone care?"
"Begone Mr. Ghostie, you see we're not scared!
We've got a great program, our souls we have bared.
Our past is a memory, our futures are bright,
Because we all gather at SR tonight!"
"Begone apprehension! Begone guilt and shame!
Begone our resentments and people to blame!
Begone and good riddance to pain we have known!
We're back in control now, our souls are our own."
The ghost disappeared then, a quick puff of steam.
We PM'd each other - was THAT just a dream?
No - just a reminder, don't be taken aback -
It works when we work it - so keep coming back!
The gift of this forum is the best gift of all
support and encouragement helps cushion our fall
We know a Higher Power makes everything right
So, Merry Christmas to all...and to all a good night!

LOL, Margot - I am changing jobs and don't start my new one until Monday, so have a little time on my hands...and thought I would have some fun.
With our winters, Canadians just have to have a sense of humour.

Hey Anns,
After reading your poem, I thought (in the true style of a co-dependent),
"Life is just not fair!"
Heck Ann, you write so poetically while I'm just lucky to make a sentence with a subject and a verb that agree!!!!...lol
Thanks for sharing your talent. I loved it!

Just found this, Ann, and I had to pull it up so all us newbies could read it and everyone that saw it last year can reread it. I'm printing this out to share at my next Naranon meeting. Thanks Ann! Have a Very Merry Christmas!!!
