What Relapse is

I took this from a reply from Friend of Bill on an earlier thread as to not hijack it. Anyone want to elaborate on this topic? WOW what an eye opener, just really hit home for me!

Relapse in alcoholism isnt just taking a drink.

Its lying.
Its blaming.
Its being a victim
Its deception
Its anger
Its resentment

So, you see..if he is in relapse, he is in FULL relapse. There should be no surprise that he is behaving this way.

Alcoholics do what alcoholics do.

Relapse starts way before the first drink. I can spot it in my ex even now. I would add arrogance complacency to the list.

Personally, I think the word relapse is used too often. Many times, the alcoholic was never in recovery to begin with, we just hoped they were.

I think this is being a lilttle hard on the alcoholic. Can you believe that dax is saying this??????? No one would have any sobriety chips if relapse was used this way. You might use it for an alanon. But All these things any person will experience because life is full of good and bad times. Especially the anger and resentment. We are getting way too program picky here in my opinion. An alcoholic that stays sober and acts in an unaccetable way is at least way better off because he is sober. This applies to my once cheating husband as well. . Let the attacks begins I guess[sigh]. dax

Absolutely. Until we find recovery.
Then, one day at a time, sometimes with grace, sometimes not, we do what recovering alcoholics do.

Made me smile to hear you say that, dax

.

These are all things I experienced prior and during a more or less recent relapse. The one common denominator to all six?
Less than healthy spiritual condition.

I'll add belligerence and false pride to that.

Dan...Maybe the first letter?

Relapse is a procession, not an event.
