My husband has an alcohol addiction and he needs help but we've only just returned to the US from living abroad and neither of us are working yet so we have no insurance. Plus we've got thousands of dollars of medical bills already from 4 ER visits he's made recently (all the result of alcohol abuse). What help is available? what sort of costs are we looking at for treatment? We need help but I'm so scared about getting even more into debt. Please advise.

I dont know anything about treatment costs in your part of the world but Alcoholics Anonymous is free.

The Salvation Army has an excellent free program for alcoholics.

'What to expect' that has true experiences.

I suggest you check it out.

I live in Texas and my ex was treated for free...there are places you can get help that goes by your income but you may have to be put on a waiting list for a bed

I also found this place here that is in Katy...call them and I bet they can help you out !

Hi there,
Just call around to the area hospitals. Some have programs where they write off hospital bills, if you don't have a job, or are unable to pay. The hospitals in my area have those types of programs, and if you don't have jobs, I'm sure you'd qualify. They are usually called chrity care or something like that, but don't let the name bother you.. Just use it if you can..
I hope you find one.. AA is a very good program, and you may know that alreaady, but you may also need a detox center, or treatment center, or both..

You may also want to try calling local college's and university's health departments. It was through my college that I found an inpatient program that ran sliding scale, starting at 10 bucks a day. But it wasn't medical and that may be what you need.
