Hitting Bottom
Hi,
I'm new. Trying to get a feel for the site, it seems like a really valuable resource. Your postings are helping me come to terms with myself. I know that the moment when a person hits bottom is different from person to person.
Anyone care to share thier story about when they knew it was time to change?
Your stories and insights will help me understand where I stand.
I look forward to your responses, and thanks.

Yep, we've all hit bottom. Some of us, like me, have hit bottom over and over again and then kept digging. It wasn't hitting bottom that got me to true recovery, it was hitting surrender. I gave up - totally and completely. I couldn't do it and I certainly couldn't do it alone. I found recovery with my HP, whom I call god and in the rooms of AA/NA. There is hope. We do recover.
Hang in there and keep posing, ok?
hugs,

bdug,
there's the recovery stories on here that several of us have posted our recovery stories.
If, you have the chance, read some of them. I've always been inspired to see what many people have been thru and made it to recovery without giving up

Hi dbug and like phinny said we've all hit bottom. One important thing to keep in mind is we all have different bottoms. For one person it might be losing his Mercedes. For another it might be losing his job. Another bottom is losing your family. For a lot of us there are many bottoms, usually one worse than the one before. IMHO we need to hit a bottom that forces us to surrender or scares us into surrender. Take the guy who lost his Mercedes, now he's driving a chevy and still drinking or drugging, now he loses his job and has a lot of time to continue drinking and drugging. His family throws him out so he's on the street, eating at soup kitchens and sells his chevy so he can keep drinking and drugging. Now he's out of money, eating at soup kitchens and sleeping under bridges and drinking and drugging when he can panhandle some money. Now he's got some money and goes to cop some crack and gets beat up and robbed. Now, maybe, just maybe, he's ready to surrender. As far as when it's time to change....that's up to the individual. If YOU still have a computer and access to the internet maybe it's your time, before the rest of that stuff happens. And it happens every day to people you'd never believe it of. 1 thing about this disease, it shows no discrimination. Rich, poor, black, white, men, women...anyone can succumb.

I was accused of taking a whole bottle of someone's medication. I didn't do it (I took a few but not close to the whole thing). when I realized that this person, who is very dear to me, had every reason to think I took them all and put her in a dangerous situation, I decided to come clean.
The pain and disappointment in my husband's eyes. I still see it, darn. Why are you guys jumping out of planes? That would be enough to drive me to, well nevermind.
Go White Sox! Chris you're a cubbies fan?
