Here Goes

Last sunday my GF stopped drinking and has done an amazing job at it. We were pretty good drinkers together, and she even played sober cab last night for some friends. However, even with entertaining the idea of stopping drinking myself recently, last night while she was gone I proceeded to get blitzed and of course call her four times and leave nasty messages because in my drunken rage I was a total Ahole. She never got the messages till 7 this morning. Needless to say I may have ruined the best relationship I've ever had over a few too many beers. There is a lot to the background of my story but I wanted to get this posted today before leaving. Obviously I am done drinking immediatley and hopefully haven't destroyed our relationship in the process. Thanks for listening. I'll be back tomorrow.

congrats on quitting. make sure no matter what you make this your main objective. even if this relationship doesnt end up working out... staying sober will keep your life from getting anymore out of control . i'll pray for you that she forgives you i know someone was looking out for me a while back.

I'm glad you have realized how alcohol is hurting you and your relationship. I hope you can do this mostly for you -- because ultimately, you are the only one you will have to answer to.

Find a meeting and get a sponsor!

Drinking

I've found alcohol to be just another drug, nothing more nothing less. I can't figure out why hard liquor hasn't been outlawed. It's much worse than pot.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. After an all night heart to heart talk with the GF and some more talking today we've decided we're far better together than apart, but we both made it clear that under no circumstances does alcohol become a part of our lives again for many reasons. She is on day 6 and I'm on day 2 and we're in this together. Looks like this will really work out! Thanks again

Just a quick update. Still no drinking for either of us. Thru the whole weekend! Saturday night was a little hard on Jo because she went to the races, obviously around drinkers and beer, but she surrounded herself with nondrinkers and came away fine. She was on the crabby testy side yesterday, but we chalked it up to a week of sobriety. Just a quick question: She had tremendous stomach cramps Friday all day and part of Saturday. Just above her pelvis and we were thinking it may be some form of withdrawals? Does this make sense?

Skyjade, Hello and welcome to SR. You are doing a tremendous job! In response to your question about your girlfriend's abdominal cramps...I'm not sure if it's a common complaint, but I had some gastro-intestinal cramping and discomfort for a few days after quitting drinking. If it persists maybe she'd like to get it checked out? Wishing you both the best.

Love Pearl (an alcoholic in early recovery)
