Unhappy shy and new at this

Day 1 for me.

I am 28 and have been drinking for 10 years. I am a danger to myself and others because of my drinking and driving. Last summer was pulled over and successfully talked my way out of a DUI. That was my last chance. I do not have the ability to go to a bar and have a few drinks. I am usually the last one there.
Having trouble figuring out how to talk to my family and friends.
Also, trying to figure out if my friends are really my friends - or just toxic.

Check out the Alcoholism forum, there are alot of good posts there. You may want to consider checking out an AA meeting to see if it is for you too. I know there are lots in St. Lou!! Welcome to the site and if nothing else continue to post here and ask questions. You will find lots of support and people who can identify with what you are going through.

Hi Vega :wave

I've closed many a bar and haven't heard nothin' from them folks since I stopped going to them. Go dry for a few weeks, you'll find out who your real friends are And you'll make lots more here!

There are a couple good, real recent threads on how to approach family and friends, or you can post another thread if you're situation is a little more specific.

Welcome to SR, hope to see you 'round!

Hey starless--I am just down the road from you in Columbia, MO. Sounds like you are pretty much sick and tired of being sick and tired. I would also suggest finding some AA meetings to try. I go to AA and it has been an absolute life-saver. If you are ever in the Columbia area, let me know and I can hook you up with some good ones!!

Glad you found us. You can get and stay sober. Just take it one day at a time.

Hugs--

Welcome! Again great to see someone in their twenties looking to be proactive about their drinking! Excellent! Try a meeting it DOES work, and take Lulu up on her offer if you can, it's great to have support from people who have been there before. Once again, welcome to SR! This is a really great place for support.
Love

Welcome Starless, I was the Queen of the "one more"s and would usually be at the bar for last call. I later had 2 DUIs and ended up doing most of my drinking at home alone. Don't waste any more time getting your life back, like I did. Check out AA or, even an outpatient or an inpatient treatment program. I have had trouble staying sober for the last couple of months so I am entering an outpatient program. Don't be afraid to reach out for help, you can't do it by yourself!

so good to see a young person recognizing a problem. you really do need some kind of support system because it will not be easy. friends (well so called) and sometimes maybe even family, may also deny your problem. you feel its a problem (it sounds like it is), so please go with your feelings.
keep posting here, the people here are great.
