Seeking reading material recomendations

A friend of mine has a son (22) in county jail for violation of a restraining order.

Did he violate it? YES. No doubt. His girlfriend is addicted to meth. He provided his parents the passwords to his cell phone and I have heard the messages his girlfriend left for him during the afternoon of the night he was arrested. They start out sweet..."I dropped the restraining order baby, I love you so much...come see me now!" to, I am embarrassed to have heard, phone sex on his voice mail, to finally, when he didn't come to threats: "I'm going to put all your stuff and your dog in your car and set it all on fire unless you get over here right now!" He went and was arrested.

The court took into consideration her words but the facts are the facts, he was ordered by a court to stay away and he didn't.

So, now he's a guest of the county. He has had several relationships, all with the same type girl.

The jail allows him to receive reading material as long as it comes from a "real" book store type address...Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com...you get the idea.

Obviously he has time to read. Any suggestions for reading material for a young man with obviously low self-esteem and big time codie issues?

Codependent No More; Melody Beattie
When Bad Things Happen to Good People; Harold Kushner
That'll get him started.
Shalom!

How about a book on boundaries? I'll get back to you when I can find the one I've got.

Or Language of Letting Go?

The Road Less Travelled?

Life Strategies by Dr Phil. I know a lot of people don't like him, but I think this book is great.

Here's a link to some Al-Anon and related reading material at Amazon.com.

Hope this helps!

How about an Al-Anon meditation book? Courage to Change is a good one.

I just got done reading Dry by Augustane Burroughs. Its more of a memoir; not really a self help book. It was a good read though!
