Cinco de Mayo

It's 05.05.05..Or Cinco de Mayo out here in the Southwest..Kind of like St. Patrick's Day but for the Mexican restaurants..

I'm staying in tonight because of all the drunk and crazy people who will be drinking tequila..there is a Mexican restaurant every block..

I'm grateful today I'm not with my A because I'm sure it would have been a fight..

party on

Why does every occasion have to be an excuse for drinking?

I can take it or leave it, but I prefer hanging out with non-drinkers.

A silly little story I heard about "Sinko da Mayo"....France was going to import mayonnaise to Mexico because the were going to refine it and make it better and become a wealthy country. Plans were set in place. The order was put on the Titanic. We all know what happened to the Titanic. Hence, the Mexicans celebrate "sinko da Mayo" day on May 5th.

Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of a Mexican victory over the French army in one battle. They went on to lose the war but they won this battle! so of course everyone gets drunk in celebration.

Cinco de Mayo has become, in the US at any rate, just another excuse to drink. Mexican beer and tequila in this case. If I were Chicana I would HATE Cinco de Mayo, just as I HATE St Pat's day as an Irish American. Why is 2 millenia of Irish history and culture reduced to green beer???

No wonder there's so many alcoholics out there ...
