What was the reason for discharge? Safety issues or otherwise. If, you were unjustly fired you can take it to the labor board. I'm in the IAM union there are several steps that have to be taken to discharge anyone where I workyou still have rights. Do you believe you or, someone you know were unjustly terminated you might have grounds for an appeal

Unfortunately, not many. Unless you were under contract, you fall into the category of "emplyment at will", which means that either you or the employer can end the employment relationship at any time, and for any reason. The only real exception would be if the employer dismissed you for a reason that is explicitly illegal, such as race or gender discrimination. Basically, though, the employer is every bit as free to tell the employee to take a hike as the employee is to say "I quit".

Unemployment benefits are a different issue, though. The employer (at least in my state) must go to great lenths to prove "just cause" in order to deny the terminated employee the ability to collect unemployment.

This is my understanding of the issues involved, but of course I'm just a poster on a message board. If you think you were wrongfully terminated, check with a lawyer.

Here is a link that does a pretty good job of explaining things:
