How do I respond to this text? Please help!

My son wrote this text how do i respond?
He is referring to a confrontation after a night at my house where he was drunk and drinking a bottle of wine secretly from the garage fridge.
"I was viciously attacked by Bruce and Damon. There's a lot of hate coming from everyone so you won't see me over Christmas. I hope you have a good time. Merry Christmas.

silent runs reply is good.

'I hope you change your mind' is another good response.
You can't solve a problem like this over text.

I know its very hard but pleading for him to come is just going to drive a wedge between you and the others which your son will probably exploit - we alcoholics fight dirty to hey our way keep our booze.

Remember it's your sons behaviour that caused this - not you, your SIL, or partner..

Yeah, I mean, he's looking for some attention here. Only you can determine whether and how much you want to give. If it were me, I would probably reply "I'm sorry to hear that. I love you. Stay safe."

But what you say is a lot less important than whether or not you are able to let it go.

Jenel, someone shared this with me and it stuck with me, so I am sharing with you. "Try not to be looking out the window for the loved one who doesn't show up, because while you are doing that, you will have your back to all the loved ones who are right there in the room with you." I wish you a Merry Christmas with your loved ones. "Sorry to hear that...we will miss you"...I agree that is a perfect response.

SeekingCalm, so true. Great post. Thank you. Because in looking out the window for my alcoholic over the last year, I have missed so much (in just a year). New neighbors, new friends, new colleagues. I am lucky that I have the time to get to know them now and I'm sorry I missed that year with these wonderful people while waiting for someone who not once thought of me.
