Thumbs up Today is the day

Today is my quit day. If I don't do it now, before the holidays, I don't know if I ever will. Posting this for accountability, as a sounding board if I need today, and words of encouragement will be appreciated too. <3 I am so very ready for this. Enough is enough. Wish me strength and wisdom.

Today is the best day to quit.

So far so good, I'm feeling fairly solid. It's just these invasive thoughts keep popping in. Which sucks. But I have done harder **** before. I can do this.

Hi 2much2luv,

Thanks for stopping by my thread and here is wishing you the same things. Those invasive thoughts are the worst. Unfortunately, I can't offer any "tried and true" advice as I have the same problem, but I hope we both get to it!

Hi 2much2luv! So glad you are here with us at SR.
How are you doing? Do you have a plan for your first few days/ weeks? I'll try to find the link to Dee's plan.
It really helped me realize that I needed a plan and structure.
Please keep reading and posting, you're not alone!

Thank you everyone! ❤️ I am doing well. It helps that I’ve been pretty sick all day from last night. Tomorrow and beyond will be the hard days. Still I feel
good. Heading to bed now, glad I have medication to help me get to sleep. I will check out all the resources you have shared tomorrow.

I saw your post about getting really overwhelmed at the prospect of a recovery plan, and I wanted to suggest the "one day at a time" mentality that I found really useful in early recovery.

Just focus on today and what you can do to not drink *today*. Don't worry about tomorrow or 3 weeks from now or the rest of your life...just don't drink today. Go to bed sober, and then wake up and focus on that day. Rinse and repeat. The days eventually start to add up.

It's really hard to quit drinking, and there's really no easy way to do it except to just do it. But I've found that taking it one day at a time makes everything seems a lot more manageable at the beginning. I still find it useful, honestly, whenever I start getting too stressed out about all the things I need to be doing.

Best of luck!! Stay close and use us for support.
