Street Party Gig & Day 15

I've prepped myself with NA beverages to bring. I will say some gratitude before I leave. I practiced this morning and my arms and hands are feeling great because they're not fighting off booze from a prior evening. My body feels connected. My mind is feeling nervous but clear. I will just keep reminding myself, today I do not drink. One day at a time.

I see that you're getting a lot of support here, but I can't help but wonder just how smart this idea is when you're just 15 days sober.

I hope you come home as sober as you leave.

Coming home sober after a concert is a great and unique feeling. My first sober show ever was four years ago, and it was such a relief. I knew where I parked, I didn't have to worry about how I was getting home, and I actually did some work around the house at 1 a.m. when I got home. It was strange, my ears were ringing and it was like I came from some strange experience, and I was up at 8 the next morning, bright eyed and raring to go. I should add that I had a smug sense of moral superiority that I didn't waste the next day recovering from the show.
Later on as I got my sober muscles, I actually attended a couple shows back to back, which is something I would never have been able to do if I was still drinking.

I don’t always get appreciated for mentioning alcohol free drinks here. I’m not going to derail copperfield’s thread (be careful, copper), but I’ll say they have their uses.

I went on holiday last year, long-haul and for three weeks. I was 8 months sober, but I packed a few, OK it was 18, cans of alcohol beer, just in case. The availability of alcohol free drinks is limited over there. The weather was going to be hot! After a week, I got the call, not entirely unexpected, that my dad had died. I was amongst my wife’s family and friends out there so had no need to rush home, but 8 months sober and losing a parent is dangerous territory.

I probably had 4 cans of my stash that night. It made things a little easier. Without that stash, I probably wouldn’t have gone to buy real beer, but there is a chance it could’ve happened.

Sobriety is of utmost importance. Relapses must be taken seriously. I read on here about “blips”. We only get one life, and no one should waste it by being addicted to booze.

So congrats to you, copperfield. Well done for the planning. Enjoy the gig.

Hi Everyone!
Thank you so much for all your messages and support. I had a great gig and made it through the entire gig and a bit of after party with absolutely no alcohol. It feels great to be home, all my gear is home and put away, showered and chilling out on the couch with my cat. Wow. Proud to be ending this day 15 as I am.

Thats great stuff Copperfield. The AV might try it on for a few days cos you've been so successful - be aware but not alarmed

Congratulations, copperfield! I'm a musician and understand the worries about playing gigs where alcohol is involved--I'm so glad you had a plan and it worked out and you had a great time. Playing music is SO much better sober--EVERYTHING is. I love feeling connected to the other musicians and paying attention instead of being off in my own little world, struggling to move my fingers, sweating and embarrassed--I felt like I'd betrayed something dear to me when I performed while drunk. I love the feeling of relaxation and accomplishment after a good gig, like taking a lovely deep breath. You did good! Wishing you all the best on your sober journey.
