Just had a really close call!

Long story...new neighbours moved in and they are drinkers. I'm talking all night outside with wine beer and coolers. I went outside this morning after my workout and they already had 3 empty bottles on their table. Since I don't work much these days, I am so tempted. It is nice out today and i found some vodka in the house.
I have a bad habit of drinking out of a huge cup (like over a litre), and i poured the vodka into a cup! I was just about to mix in diet coke when I grabbed it and poured everything down the sink.
Why? It would never be enough. I drink so fast I'd be hammered in an hour and going to the store for more, spending money and then not being able to do anything tomorrow.
I've never been so strong and I'm so happy.

Great job how about many a nice fruit smoothie with some protein and a meal. Now that's a great reward after a workout. Congrats

I eat berries almost every day with Greek yogurt but I ended up having tea with almond milk and vacuumed lol.
I still can't believe I did that.

Nice it's good to here when others in recovery made these life changing decisions.

I relate.

I love when I see drinkers starting out for their day or night drinking. Then see them drugged and out of it an hour or 2 later.

One story that happened fairly recently was a party, 90% food, at a friends house.

One family showed up and everyone started to dig into the food, except for the Dad.

He didn't want to eat yet because he wanted to drink first. He didn't want to mess up the buzz.

So, he drank two large cups of ultra strong Margarita. I know from experience that he was wasted.

He worked hard not to show it. His wife whispered to him, "that's enough." I regretfully remember those days.

The next day we were all supposed to meet for breakfast.

He didn't show up.

Glad those days are over forever.

Thanks.

I can't believe that was once our life - so thankful we don't do that anymore. I know how tempting it is to fall back on the old ways. Proud of you, anxiousrock.

Congratulations!

Yes. I have to admit watching people around with nice weather, chilling and having some drinks it's very tempting.

But as soon as I remember my hangovers, that craving lasts about two seconds. In the first two, three months was harder. Now, it's like meh, whatever.

And I wake up fresh.

Keep it up!

That's really positive anxiousrock, well done. Hopefully you don't have any more vodka in the house.

Shame about those neighbours.

Thanks everyone! Happy to spend Friday night sober with almond milk, oreos (my safe cookie lol) and my fiance! I hope everyone else has just as good a day as me

Isn't it insane that we rationalise morning drinking as completely normal?
I'm glad you poured it out Samantha.

Like Sao...I don't think it's a good idea for people like us to have vodka or any other kind of alcohol in the house.
However well hidden it is we always seem to remember exactly where it is.

they're out there again now . But I'm proud of myself for not giving in. I cannot believe how close I was. But oreos are better than vodka any day

Wow! Good job surviving a very close call. I can't even imagine having that kind of composure at this point.

Having a poured drink in a cup certainly is a close call. Congrats. But stop doing that. You're scaring the be-jabbers out of me.
