I had 20 yrs sober once and lost it. It took me almost 2 yrs of drinking to quit again. But now I have over 10 yrs sober so am making up for lost time.

Take heart. You're sober now and that's what counts.

Thumbs up

Well, maybe now - instead of trying to hang on - you ought to just climb down and stand on solid ground.

13 August is right around the corner ...

Still makes you a rock star around here Zanzibar. How long did you drink prior to your 2017 quit? I'm interested to know after nearly 20 years of sobriety, what happened and what was it like? Only if you feel like sharing. I am 8 months sober and I cannot imagine ever drinking again, but your story, and so many others I have read here these many months show me that it is hubris and folly to think it can't happen. Thank you for posting.

A re-surge of ptsd, my life as i knew it falling apart. I could blame it on a whole raft of things. But in the end, I'm the one responsible as to whether I drink or whether I don't.
I started drinking again in 2015, and have been beating on myself since. Only when I stop beating on myself and accept for it what it is will I be able to move forward again.
Hang in there and everyday tell yourself you're not going to drink today.
And remember that only you can say yes, and only you can say no.

So with nearly 3 years of sobriety, you are still beating on yourself? Do you feel like that it is challenging to stay sober with so much self-beating still going on?

I have a hard time remembering the past without living in it. But being back on SR is a good start on healing. Don't think what happened with me will happen to you, but don't think it can't either.
Addiction is a strong foe, and we have to always be on guard for what it throws at us.
Eight months is really great!!!
