Had a scare, SO glad I am sober!
Had a scare, SO glad I am sober!
It is hot here, real hot.
It is 9:30 pm and still hot. Granddaughter wouldn't sleep so SIL puts her in van to take her for a ride because it puts her right out.
Straps her in car seat and shuts the door. They all lock automatically. Keys are on the seat. New van so he had no idea this would happen. Plus he is from England and I don't think those little bare bones cars he is used to there have these features.
We are in a rural area so help isn't just around the corner.
6 months ago I would have been passed out in my chair and more than likely of no help at all.
He is just about frozen not knowing what to do and my daughter is starting to panic also so she comes to the shop and gets me.
I make a couple quick attempts to get in then tell her to call 911. They gave us the number to the local tow company we call and he says he is close and will be right there.
No more than 5 minutes later he is there and 1.5 minutes later she is out. He refused payment!
Help actually was around the corner
Just me being there, calm and decisive, with large tools in my hand LOL, gave them reassurance everything was gonna be OK when just moments earlier they were almost in full panic mode.
6 months earlier I would have been a useless lump
I read the thread about fears this morning.
My biggest fear, now, is not being available when I am desperately needed by those who look to me for help and guidance.

Oh Fishkiller, I just love it! I think my daughter would lose it if I ever drank again. I had to tell her the other day "you don't have to worry about me drinking again....it will never happen". That's how much my drinking impacted her. So good to be on the other side! I can proudly say I'm a responsible parent now. Yay us!!!
Good for you FK, that is the really significant and meaningful change being sober brings.
Thank goodness that it all worked out okay too and I can only imagine the panic you were all in
Thank you for posting

Thanks for reading my post everyone!
I did not post for accolades, not that they don't feel good and are appreciated, but rather to remind those struggling that you never know when the rewards will come.
They will come. Sometimes they will be small and sometimes they will be huge. But they will come.
Hang in there guys and gals! It is so worth it!

I'm happy everyone was safe Fishkiller! This is a huge example of how just us being sober can actually save lives. Think about the multitudes of small positive impacts we make everyday when we are sober that we might not notice, but that accumulate over time. More reinforcement. Also, congrats on 6 months!
