when I get down I try and make a list of the things i still have - i still have friends, and family and people who love me, and good books and fine music and I have a roof over my head and food to eat, TV to watch and internet to surf

we can all get through this, and I believe that everyone one of us here can get through it all sober and clean

Focus on the things you're grateful for Samantha

thanks Dee. Not much I'm grateful for these days. Just my cat (sad he's so old, blind etc), my fiance, my cousin.

And my parents but my dad doesn't know much about my drinking. Just that I go to AA.

Thanks everyone. Thanks to you I ate a lot of food (bread, cheese and soup) and stoped drinking and woke up sober and not still drinking. There was alcohol left in the bottle...plus some I spilled on the floor. So I'm not saying its okay that I drank, because its not. But I stopped.

Well done anxiousrock. It's good to get some food inside you. One thing that people with alcohol problems often have is a poor diet which in itself can cause serious health problems. It's far better to eat properly than drink.

I'm glad you're doing better today, Sam.

Do you think you could come up with some healthy ways to deal with stress/depression? I know you can do this.

Thanks everyone. It feels weird to not finish off the bottle in the morning like I normally would....there's a quarter left plus a spilled one and 2 large mixed drinks that I never finished and will be going down the drain.
Next step is trying harder to fight the urges.

There's a thread here at SR about urge surfing. I tried to find the link for it but couldn't find it. Hopefully someone can post the link.

Search up CarolD. She was a member that passed away a bit ago. Dee often links it.

Darn it, I really feel for you. The alcohol makes us insane. I’ve been a chronic relapser for as long as I can remember. Spilled drinks and the debate on whether to polish off the bottle in the morning. Smart to pour it down the drain because finishing off that bottle easily leads to another bender for me. Get some sunshine and be sober. You said there’s not much you’re grateful for then you named your cat, your cousin and your fiancé. You’ve found love ?!?! And that’s “not much”??? You might night to reframe that dear. Sounds pretty spectacular to me.

I poured 2 huge leftover drinks straight down the drain rather than drinking them! I drank about half a bottle and 2 coolers last night....much less than normal for me.
