There is a wonderful life waiting

If you get and stay sober and are honest and willing to put your all into recovery. You can never foresee the wonderful things that can lie ahead in sobriety. The most precious of all is peace of mind but there are also a myriad of ‘material’ things that materialise as a consequence when you let things play out in their natural course.

Grateful to be sober 🙏

Even when my life is not going well, when it's not better, at least it's simpler to deal with.

Absolutely, simply true, brighterday! Sobriety is a huge blessing by every standard. I just turned 60 and have always wanted to get a degree but alcohol and serious mental illness was a huge impediment. After I got sober on 23 December 2015 so many good things opened up for me, rewards big and small, mental and tangible; I got help for my issues, received a grant to attend college and 2 years later am one class away from a degree in Social Work, with a 3.76 GPA. I plan on continuing with my four year degree. It is never too late to get sober, and the rewards are real.

When you stop being a drunk and finally bow out of that horror movie, you open yourself up to a lot of life's wonders. It takes awhile to stabilize the sobriety though, at least it did for me. And there was definitely a lot of tough sledding along the way. Some up ahead for me too, I'm sure. But I know I can face it now, clear-eyed and capable of dealing.

There's a lot of peace of mind to be had just by knowing that you're doing the right thing each day. The drinker clinging to the old familiar safety of the misery he knows doesn't know what he's missing. Great post, BrighterDay!

Yes, it does feel like life is better sober, no matter what is happening.
