Welcome to the family! Well done on your sober years! How were you able to stay sober all those years?

Thank you!! When I stopped drinking, I switched to overeating. As the years went by, I continued in AA meetings off and on and in psychotherapy. I needed the one-on-one therapy. I did a lot of additional work on my own and by facing what fueled my depression and addiction problems helped my self-esteem heal. Now I am craving free. I can't remember the last time I craved alcohol and am free from craving fattening foods. It's Heaven!! My brain works so much better now! I get to sleep easily every night. I love it! My life is so much easier now!

It seems pretty common for people to switch addictions. I struggled with food for a couple years way back before I quit drinking this last time. That one was hard to break. It's the same processes at work.

Welcome, HC.

HappyCrafter, Welcome!

I think it is so important to deal with the underlying issues and also to work on self-esteem. I'm glad you're doing well.

Food is a tough addiction. Unlike alcohol we can't just quit eating. Glad you are joining us. You may be new here but you have more years of sobriety than most of us.

Welcome and congratulations on your many years of sobriety! You're an inspiration. I'm on day 211.

I have noticed that since I stopped drinking, I am eating way more sweets. Any tips on the best way to stop those cravings and still have them in the house for the rest of the family??

For starters, I make beaded jewelry because I am in love with gemstones. Also, I write about how I was and how I got better on my blogs; I do some simple crocheting, love to cook and bake, simple sewing and sometimes I paint bisque beads if I want certain colors. Isn't crafting fun? I love it!

Welcome, HC.
I agree!! Mindset is EVERYTHING! My family was abusive and violent, so I have had to do extensive work on my self-esteem and mental health issues. I give thanks that nasty part is behind me.

Oh, Sweets!!! Stoping the cravings doesn't mean you can't have an occasional dessert. What I did to resolve my cravings was to accept what bothered me. I had to go through every issue that fueled my depression and mental illness to heal my wounded soul. It is a ton of work, but every day I noticed tiny improvements and that kept me going. It all adds up!
