Unhappy Extreme dryness, burning?

So I am new here and this is my first post! I have been binge drinking for 8 years on and off. I have gone through the same withdrawals, knowing how absolutely awful they are, and I am currently beating myself completely up that I am here again after all the progress I made and how much everyone kept saying how great I looked, after 8 months of sobriety. I do believe work stress, no AA meetings and anxiety caused from everything going on with this corona situation, I relapsed, took a drink thinking I could stop tomorrow. I couldn't. It started out just a little drinking before work, and not doing anything after work. Then it became almost every day taking three shots of rum before work, going during lunch to get a pint of rum, keeping it in my purse, drinking on the pint in the bathroom, and then drinking some more at home. I was not even eating, or barely. The embarrassment of drinking again after so long, I feel like such a failure after the huge amount of progress I made.

My skin looks awful. Since quitting a couple days ago it feels like it burn in certain places, gets extremely flaky around the mouth area, and then there are little tiny bumps all over my face. It also looks a little rubbery in certain areas around my nose, but that could be in my own mind. I can barely keep anything on my face to relieve the dryness because it just soaks everything up very quickly. When I try to put lipstick on it also seems to be disappearing due to the fact that my lips are so dry. Have any of you had these severe kind of symptoms with your face? I have seen things about itchiness, which I am grateful, I am not dealing with (yet), but not so much about what feels like a light burning around the mouth.. Anyone know why this would happen AFTER you stop drinking? During the time I was drinking, I don't think it looked this bad. Its always right AFTER my skin gets bad.

Tomorrow everyone will see something is wrong, and it just feels so embarrassing. I guess my one saving grace is the requirement of a facemask at work. However My eyes look so bloodshot. Not open; puffy and low as if I'm high. Or sick. The eye dryness makes me feel disoriented. I am curious why they get MORE red when you stop.

I am so happy to be here. I cannot let this happen again.

Not sure if I have the answers, but having quit two days ago, my eyes are red as can be, and I seem to have an acne breakout over my face and a red rash across my chest.
I have read somewhere that the bloodshot eyes will gradually reduce, but it takes about 6 weeks until they are back to normal.
Great that you have made the decision to quit, and as you know, it does take a while for the body to repair. All the best for success!

Welcome to SR. You should definitely get with a medical professional to take a look and diagnose your health situation. Like many things that aren't good for us, alcohol is very inflammatory and using it leaves our bodies in a state of toxic shock. When you stop, your body kicks into high gear in an effort to get back to equilibrium and sometimes the initial stages of detoxifying can look and feel worse than when you are using. Detox symptoms are many and varied. But please see a doc. They can give you things to help that process and make sure you are safe.

Its dehydration....it happens EVERYTIME I binge ….it takes a lot of fluids and I wash my face with a sugar scrub or any scrub that has the little balls of sugar in them...to smooth your face again

Toxins are leaving your body and you are healing. Alcohol damages us beyond what we could imagine!
Eat good foods, if you can, drink a lot of water and Gatorade (to replace electrolytes).

I had this each time in binge drank for days on end.
i did a lot of research and believe it is the blood vessels make your skin expand (something along those lines anyway).
I always found when I had it I also had itchy eyes and nose as alcohol is a histamine. The only thing you can do is not drink and it will go away and always check in with a doctor or detox specialist with any symptoms. The fact that we have these reactions externally also means there may be other issues internally. I don’t mean to scare you with that. Thiamine and other medications can go a long way in recovery to ensure you remain healthy but you must ask a health care profesional for them and be honest as painful or embarrassing as it can be.
Moisturiser doesn’t seem to do a lot for it.. just time, healthy eating and staying sober. It’s never to late to pick your self up and try again
