I am new here
My name is Wit, and I am introducing myself to this forum. I stopped drinking 6 days ago after 13 years of very hard drinking; I just decided to stop before something bad happened to my family, the community, or me. I nearly drank tonight, and so I am reaching out for the first time for help. The other problem is that the AA meetings are about an hour away, so I do hope to find support here, and then I will attend AA when I can. Pleased to introduce myself, and I look forward to meeting people here.
Welcome Wit! Congratulations on your days of sobriety! It is the best thing you could ever do for yourself. It's tough now but it really will get better. Hang in and hang around this site and you'll get the support you need.

Welcome, Wit!
Reading and posting here on SoberRecovery as well as attending AA meetings and working the program have kept me sober seven years. But for now, most AA meetings have gone online due to Coronavirus.

Here is a link for a 24/7 zoom meeting... Never stops its pretty great
6 days, and I'm guessing you're near done with physical cravings. Next to come are the head games that we have all endured. This is where you can start thinking and choosing whether or not to take that first drink. [Hint:] Don't take the first drink.

Thank You for all of your kind words
I needed them last night. AA meetings online are next. And as one poster stated about the physical, yes the physical is over, but was absolutely correct about the head games, as they have started. Reading your replies and the countless stories and support on so many other threads is keeping me laser focused. I look forward to learning and accepting help, and hopefully one day give back when I am ready to do so. Again, thank you.

Welcome to you.
I am glad you found us.
Well done for reaching out.
Well done for 6 days too.
Some UK AA meetings are being held online as a zoom meeting.
Maybe have a look and see what you can find.
I wish you the best xx

Welcome Wit! Glad you found SR. We have a great group of people who completely get what you’re going through and who also have great insight / guidance for others. I’ve learned so much here over the years.
Glad to have you with us, Wit. You found the best place ever for encouragement & friendship. Congratulations for making the life changing decision to get sober. 6 days is wonderful - but I guess it's 7 days now.
