Big pat on my back :)

Was having a conversation with one of the dads at the school gates yesterday.
He was saying how he is keeping fit and not going out drinking like he used to when his other three kids were young.
I told him I was 3 years sober today with a big smile on my face.
He replied , you sound like an alcoholic.
I said that’s because I am, a recovering one.
There’s worse things to be , he said.

An active alcoholic were my thoughts.

Snowy - I actively visualise the day when instead of shame and embarrassment I've been sober long enough to be 'out and proud' about my problem drinking. Hats off to you!

Congrats on 3 years snowy and being honest. I tell people that I quit because I already drank enough for a few lifetimes

Thanks, I can’t hold my own water so keeping my past a secret is best off my chest. After a while I didn’t feel the need/obliged to let people know.
It does feel like therapy in a way sticking it to alcoholism/my beast

Most people arn’t bothered I find.
