Marching Soberly through the weekend - 06 - 09 March 2020

to the Weekenders

I promise to myself I will not drink alcohol this weekend.

So easy to write...but what does it really mean?

Promise myself???????

a declaration or assurance to me and us!

But it’s not just us in the mix!

It’s that Addictive Voice that yabber yabbers constantly, trying to convince us to take the drink or drugs.

Turning a deaf ear isn’t as easy as the saying goes.

The addictive voice pretends to be our friend...it also is our nemesis.

Putting it in its rightful place, taking away its power, gives us an opportunity to march on soberly through the weekend....Whatever the weather.

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes.

(Psst. We’re not just here to talk about the good stuff, if you’re struggling.....please shout out).
(We’re here all week too!)

Haha I really rushed that to get in first!

Weekend looks good, no chance at all of me drinking, got to get through it emotionally in one piece

110 days currently (coming up on 4 months).

The angel on the shoulder might be a devil at some point (not sure what this means exactly yet). Might have a devil on two shoulders at that point.

Both shoulders might be devil(s) at some point. Always something to watch out for is what I figure myself. Not supposed to trust Angel(s) or devil(s).

I'm in! Thanks, Mags!

Another busy week and weekend for me. Working full days, and then overtime at night until Saturday night. I'm too busy to drink!! But seriously, I don't know how I used to fit in so much drinking. Staying busy is a great way keep that AV at bay, as long as you are not over stressing or overextending yourself. I sometimes do that, and that's when sneaky thoughts that a drink might be nice start popping up. I have to really work to keep a balance. It's like clockwork for me.

So remember to take time out to do something relaxing and nice for yourself! Doesn't have to be anything big. A walk, a bath with some good-smelling stuff, a pedicure if that's your thing, a treat in a coffee shop, a movie at a theatre. These are the things I do when I need a break from the sometimes head-spinning pace of my life.

Count me in too. Thanks Mags!

21 days sober today for me. My sleeping has improved and I've got a lot more energy so I hope to put that energy to good use this weekend by going for a long walk on both Saturday and Sunday morning.

In for this week's Weekender!

Congratulations on shotgun Be123!

Excellent opening post again Mags. Marching on. The thing is although it is not a smooth, linear process the more time you rack up without drinking the more it gives our brains a chance to adapt so that "I need a drink to take myself away" is not our first or even second thought when something bad comes along as they do for most of us. This will be my 270th Weekend sober.

This will be my first weekend sober in many, many years. Scared of the AV, but I am making my plans for the weekend, so I have very little downtime. Not saying I won't relax; I will just be occupied. I have made it 4 days so far. I can do it!
