In memory of a man I once knew

Today is Valentine's Day. I have someone who adores me, brought me flowers and a card yesterday, and told me he wouldn't have changed anything in the last seven years we've been together. I love him.

I remember Valentine's Day with my husband. Oh, we had funny Valentines cards but nothing romantic, nothing that would lead to intimacy, because that was off the table. I cringed when I even thought of him touching me, even though I still loved him. He was drunk almost all the time.

But it wasn't always like that. He renovated an entire house by himself, for us. He managed to re-wire this old place, no small task on a house 150 years old. He was the man who couldn't wait to propose to me. He had a friend whose engagement fell through, and that friend handed over a used engagement ring and agreed to take installments until the ring was paid off.

I hope the love of my youth is resting in peace. He certainly wasn't happy here.

My current love was an unexpected gift. I had resigned my self to maybe never finding another partner. I didn't deserve this, but I'll take it..

Prayers to you and your hubby. Alcoholism sucks.

Thank you for sharing Velma.

This post touches a lot of soft spots in my heart, for lots of different reasons.

I am glad you found a new love... and I'm glad you still honor the old.

You deserve all the best things in life.
