First post, Day 9

I have been reading posts on this site for several years, lots of great information and support. I finally gave up my endless attempts to taper and in desperation went to an inpatient detox unit, there 7 days. Doing well but would like to become an active part of this online community. Hi everyone!

Hi Sunny. How is Day 10 going for you?

So I guess (if my arithmetic is right) that you got out of detox like, 2 or 3 days ago? Cool! Besides posting here at long last, do you have other support systems and strategies for getting to Day 11 and beyond? It's one day at a time, of course, but it takes some planning to get through each one, in my experience.

Yeah Sunny, tapering just doesn't work very well (at least that was my experience).

Come on over to the January class when you feel up to it. I'm just a newbie there within the past few days, but I already see a very supportive and strong group of people. My best luck staying sober occurred when I remained active here at SR. At the time, I was surprised how much of a difference it made.

Welcome.

Thanks for the welcomes. So far, so good. I have a plan in place including 3 days a week outpatient group connected with the detox center. Also meetings, going to check out several non-A.A. ones. Seeing a psychologist for some individual talk therapy. Whew!
I don’t know what the January class is but will go check it out.

Welcome Sunnyday. Yeah tapering is nearly universal in its utter failure as a drinking strategy. Works about as well and as often as "moderation." Sounds like you are on the road to recovery. That is awesome.

And congratulations on day ten.

It's so good to have you with us, Sunny. 10 days is wonderful - those first few are very rough, but you made it.

Hello, Sunnyday! I'm very glad you are here, and congratulations on ten days. Good things await you in sobriety, and SR has been a vital part of my recovery-it sounds as if you have a good plan in place, and I wish you the best.

Welcome to the family. Sounds like you've got a good support system in place. SR can be another tool in your sobriety toolbox.
