Thanksgiving Weekend 5 Years Ago...

... I was busy feeling sorry for myself having my last drink after “just needing a few” to get through the Thanksgiving holiday with my in-laws. A few became too many of course and I finally understood that I couldn’t control the drinking. But I could control not drinking.

Five years of sobriety later, I am thankful for Thanksgiving finally giving me the push I needed. I hope that those of you out there struggling this weekend can find that push too. Drinking closed off my ability to see what was possible. Sobriety continues to open up my world and I’m so so grateful.

Also grateful to all of you who helped make 5 years possible. Hope this message can pass on some of that good energy I’ve received on this forum.

5 years! Congratulations, rockstonic. It was after a disastrous holiday season that I finally quit, too. I'm so thankful we no longer play that deadly game.
