Auto Pilot for the (AV)Addictive Voice - Weekenders 15 - 18 November 2019

Welcome to the Weekenders

If I hadn’t had a brimming box of sober tools, if I hadn’t got SoberRecovery website forum (SR), if I hadn’t got a big network of friends to lean on.....

...This week I could’ve drank.

Being prepared, with sober tools, with SR (for me) and all the years of experience from people who ‘get’ me.

Sometimes when things seem so bad that the ‘easy’ way is to pick up that drink again and kid myself that if it didn’t make it better at least I’d be out of it.

But fortunately, I have my sober tools, I have a network of friends on SR who are helping me even when they don’t realise it. These work for me even when I can’t.

That is why I won’t drink, even when the chips are down and the old AV tries to snake his way in my thoughts.

But it is worth keeping those sober tools ready, Because now and again we can have a bad day. Keeping sober makes the bad day tolerable.

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!)

Morning all. Had a bit of a row with Mrs D last night, I brought it on. I want a bigger stake in this relationship. I'm not the drunk willing to let things slide anymore.

Hm. Relationship dynamics are tricky. Good luck, Dragon.

Still just one egg at the eagle nest. There will likely be another one late today or sometime tomorrow.

Egg in nest

So Mags, I briefly scanned your past few days posts and I don't see what happened this week? Is your itchy thing shingles? (I ask because that's one of the jabs I got recently.) Anyway, whatever has happened to give your AV a tickle I'm glad you've bounced it out on its ear.

I hope Kaily comes back, I miss her.

So I'm ready for my head to be unstuffy any time now...

In for a sober week, regardless

Bim, do the eagles usually two eggs?

I have a funny immune system that works on overdrive if I catch anything, bringing me out in a rash which can start me anaphylactic. I carry an epi-pen after I had a respiratory arrest after an episode a year or so ago. Plus with the asthma it all makes for fun and games.

Oh, I see. Well that sounds a bit tricky. Bodies are really complicated!

The eagles usually have two eggs.

Speaking of...the gorilla mama at the zoo is pretty big for six months pregnant, and I did put a spell on her to have twins so I'm still hopeful. Very rare, though.

Oh wow Bim, I’m pleased Gorilla mama is doing well. Fingers crossed it’s twins.

I agree, bodies are complex things. I don’t know which is the worst, the body or the brain.

Preach.

If I could slow my brain down to a speed that is manageable (especially in the early morning hours) life would be much easier. So many random firings. I have to really work at it in the mornings.

Mine used to race off in the night if I woke up but I don’t get that any more, more so I think since I stopped work.

I'm in!

Thanks Mags, timely OP, don't let those tools go rusty through lack of use. We are coming up to the party season so I reckon if you don't want to enter the century's third decade still drinking then now would be a good time to quit.

Good luck Dragon. Going from drunkeness to sobriety can change the dynamics of a relationship in unexpected ways.

Welcome ReadyAtLast! You can do it.

Good to see you dpac.

5.57pm and it has been dark for over an hour!

I'm in.

Having a very annoying day at work. My boss is driving me nuts - she's being very scattered today and I don't know what she's even talking about. She starts talking to me when she's halfway through a thought in her head so I have to ask her what she's even talking about half the time. It's like a series of non-sequiturs. She always tends toward that, but I'm starting to wonder if a bit of dementia is setting in. It's gotten worse. She retires in a year or two.

I made the cottage pie I promised myself. It is delicious, if I do say so myself. 😊
Good antidote to an annoying day.
